Guess I am lucky that mine is older... the product is labled "made in the USA." I use all 9 settings regularly plus the whisk for whipped egg whites. Every Christmas I make several large batches of shortbrerad, and this mixer handles that task well. No more aching forearm and flour getting all over the table from stirring by hand! Beaters are easy to clean. Love the instant "stop" switch, but sometimes it is slow to activate. I've never had a stand mixer, always cheap hand mixers for the 30 years before I bought this gem.

I bought this mixer because I was tired of using poor hand mixers. I really wanted something with the features I like, with good durability. I appreciate the fact that this mixer rests well on the end and won't topple over in that position. It has a good sturdy cord that stays out of the way. The reason I give it four stars as opposed to five, is that even on top speed, it just doesn't have as much "ummph" as I thought it would. Maybe that's because I'm used to my stand mixer. Anyway, I am very hopeful that this will last me a long time.

Great item...I just love the flat surface on the back end of the mixer for standing, the quiet motor, but above all the power of this mixer. I don't have the counterspace for the large stand mixer and this is its perfect little sister. I didn't think I would use all the nine speeds or in fact needed them....but I find myself adjusting all the time, with ease I might add, based on the consistency of the dough or mix. Love it!

I can't say enough good things about my new kitchen Aid mixer, its quite and I mean quite, and has all the power I will ever need. I bake a lot and have both an old Sunbeam Mixmaster and a KitchenAid Artisan stand mixer, both of which get lots of use. As I was dragging my KitchenAid Artisan over to use it a few months ago, I wondered what it would be like to have a smaller, strong hand-held mixer for the not-so-large duties. I did the research, purchased this, and have been very, very pleased with it. The ability to mix up cookie dough, cake mixes, frostings - all from scratch - has been very good and I am very pleased with it. I'll still use the other two for the larger recipes or recipes where a lot of time is spent in mixing, but I pull out my little KitchenAid Hand Mixer all of the time now.

The very best thing about this product is the really slow start speed.
From blending sugar and butter, to adding dry ingredients, it performs beautifully. No more splashing out of the bowl or dusting everything with flour. The digital speed control is easy to use also. A movable cord would be my only suggestion to improve the product; my old mixer had one and I found it quite an asset.

Our first use of the KHM9PWH was to whip potatoes. I added butter and cream and mixed the soft potatoes. It worked very well and the motor did not slow down. However after whiping, I added some items and went to whip them in. The mixer did not work. No light, nothing. After 4 hours I tested again and all was ok. A call to KitchenAid advised me that it was the steam and a safty circuit that caused the failure. No problems since.

I bought this for my girlfriend for Christmas (hey, she wanted a hand mixer, so that's what she got!). My mother has always used hand mixers, and I recall them as always being extremely loud. This one isn't. Very quiet, and powerful to boot. The electronic brains seem to do a really good job of stopping the mixer from bogging down, even in potatoes, and the post-less beaters are easy to clean and don't gum up. The whisk is kinda fun too.

I recently purchased this hand mixer to supplement my KitchenAid stand mixer. I am happy with my purchase as I always have been with the quality of my stand mixer, but there are a few annoyances for me.

I know that I must be spoiled with the power of my stand mixer, but I found this one a little weak on power when dealing with thicker cookie dough. It seemed to me that the dough stuck more in the beaters than it has with the "traditional" style beaters. Usually when I lift a mixer out of the bowl a bit on the high speed, the cookie dough would loosen up from the middle and go back into the bowl. It doesn't happen very easily with this one. This probably won't be a problem for most, but hey, I've spoiled myself to it.

It is a great mixer for everyday mashing potatoes and whipping up something quick but not great for thick cookie dough or creaming butter and sugar.

I got this hand held mixer after my Cuisinart died. I had the Cuisinart with the timer and when I went to replace it I couldn't find it so thought it was no longer made (though I think now I may have been mistaken). Anyway, I read the reviews on this mixer and it sounded good so I bought it about a year ago and now I can't understand the rave reviews. I find the handle to be small and uncomfortable and I don't have large hands; it is tilted at a funny angle and it's too tight. The power is certainly adequate for whipping cream and light batters but really grinds away at anything heavy. The cord is at a strange angle which makes storing it in a drawer difficult, not impossible though. Anyway, I find myself avoiding using it--the opposite of how I felt about my Cuisinart timer. I recommend skipping this one if you do a lot of baking.

This mixer is such a workhorse; it is always up for any amount of mixing you want to do. I have a black one that came with accessories--dough hooks, whisk, and drink mixer rod. What impressed me the most, along with the normal mixing and whisking, is when I used the dough hooks to mix a LARGE amount of ground beef mixture that I was preparing to make a couple of meat loaves and meatballs with. It tackled it with ease.

If you want a hand mixer that you will have for years and years, this is the one. I've had other hand mixers (wedding gifts) but none of them compared to the KitchenAid one.

This is my third KitchenAid hand mixer. My first was a three speed, my second a five speed and now I have the nine speed. Each one has had more power than the last. This is light weight and has an easy to use digital speed control that is not in your way when you are using the mixer. I always wanted the KitchenAid stand mixer, but when my children were home, I couldn't afford it and now that I can afford it, the hand mixers from KitchenAid have made me realize its just not necessary to have the big one that takes up a lot of counter space. The nine speed is wonderful. The lower two speeds are for stirring. My other two mixers didn't have that capability. I was surprised how much power this mixer has. I'd had this mixer on my "Wish List" for sometime, but really couldn't justify purchasing one. My old Black & Decker Ergonomic worked fine, even if it was so loud as to be annoying. Amazon ran a Friday Special on the Koman Race-for-the-Cure 9-speed Kitchenaid hand mixer and it was just too good to pass up. I'm so glad I gave in to impulse and indulged myself when I bought this mixer - the near silence is wonderful. My husband was in the next room the first time I used this and wanted to know what the low humming sound was coming from. Contrast this with the B&D which was so loud, one couldn't hear a person talking right next to them. As for mixing power, the Kitchenaid seems to do just fine with chocolate chip cookie dough. I haven't tried it on potatoes yet, but expect it will do just fine. If you need a hand mixer, as a short-term user, I definitely recommend this one. I hope that it continues to provide years of service since the noisy B&D was 13 years old and still going strong. It has been moved to the workshop for mixing paint...

Since I am one of those people that has every kitchen gadget known to mankind I wasn't certain this would get much use in my kitchen. I was wrong. With this mixer and its balloon whisk attachment, which is included, I am able to do anything that I previously used a non-powered whisk to perform.

There is an optional attachment to turn this into an immersion blender, for those that don't already have one.

I expected this mixer to be heavy, like all the other kitchen aid appliances. It is much lighter than I expected, which is a good thing. My arm did not tire using this mixer as much as it would with a regular balloon whisk.

Having the power buttons integrated into the face of the machine makes this appliance much easier to clean than the older machines with the buttons. No little crevices for "crud" to accumulate.

America's test kitchen rated the Kitchen Aid mixer (7 speed) very highly which is why I purchased this one. This is a highly recommend item, in my opinion.

I just used this mixer for the first time. It is true that the low speeds are very low, and this is a great feature. I really like the electronic speed control. The mixer appears to be able to maintain speed even if what is being mixed is extra heavy. The only drawback is the placement of the cord for a left handed user, which I am. It places the cord awkwardly over what is being mixed. It is hard to understand why KitchenAid allowed this design flaw to happen. If this flaw weren't present, I'd have rated it five stars.

I bought this mixer as a replacement for a replacement. I'd had a 5-speed (with power boost) Black & Decker mixer forever. When it gave up the ghost, I replaced it with a 5-speed Oster. Since I'd lucked out on my Black & Decker - it was a good mixer and I didn't even know it - I didn't know what "not" to buy and how to search for a good mixer. The Oster's slowest speed was too fast (threw food out of the bowl) and it was so heavy (and improperly balanced) that it was hard to hold up. My mom recommended the KitchenAid 7-speed (she is recently purchased it). We were able to get the 9-speed professional for less than the 7-speed so we grabbed it. I have been sooooooooo happy with it. It works well at high and low speeds (leaving the food in the bowl where it belongs) & is really easy to hold (shaped well, balanced well, and not too heavy). I will never give up this mixer. If it dies, I will replace it with the same kind.

This item replaced an OLD Sunbeam hand mixer. This has a lot more power & versatility. The soft start helps the spattering. Mixes heavy dough easily. Beater design does not whip cream as quickly as flat blade designs do. Mixer heavier than the one it replaced, which took some getting used to. I would recommend over some others I tried for comfort of use. Was an excellent buy, especially with rebate.

My previous Kitchenaid mixer died from the usual beater clip problem-the beaters would not stay attached. I read a lot of Amazon reviews, and no serious challenger was mentioned, so I went ahead and ordered the 9-speed model, which actually cost less than the 5-speed model. So far, So good-the 9 speeds are useful, and I especially like the torque-sensitive electronic feature which beefs up the power for stiff items like frosting and dough. For 59.99, it is a really good deal. Whether it lasts 10 years or more is anybody's guess. I say go for it!

I've owned a Kitchen Aid 3 speed for nearly 10 years and considered the 5 & 7 speed hand mixers. I am so glad I settled on this one because of the greater variety in slower and hi speed selections!

With my old mixer, I found that powdery substances like confectioner's sugar, cocoa, etc would make a such a cloud of dust with particles entering the mixer vents. Soupy mixtures would splatter everywhere. This mixer provides 3 slow speeds that prevent dust clouds and splatters. Also lacking in my old mixer was enough power to easily whip (evaporated milk, whipping cream, egg whites, etc). I have no problem now and really appreciate the included whisk attachment.

I feel spoiled already by the digital read-out and how easy it is to discharge the beaters. What makes it even nicer is the Amazon price of $54.99 (with rebate) and free shipping! Amazon's price is at least $30 less than what most stores are charging. What a deal for a great product. Don't hesitate!

I have a small kitchen and did not want to get the big KitchenAid stand mixer. Given thier reputation, I thought I would try this as an alternative.

It worked great - for a while. In about a year, I have basically killed it where it takes FOREVER to do anything heavy. Lots of speed, not so much torque.

My cookies started to get worse and worse, until I realized what was happening. I made the same cookies in a different kitchen with someone else's hand mixer that I had not killed yet and noticed the difference and remebered that this mixer *used* to feel like that when it was new.

Bottom line? I just ordered the KitchenAid stand mixer. I should have done this last year and saved the price of this mixer.

Please don't read this as a completely negative review. I may have chosen the wrong tool for the wrong job. It's not all this hand mixer's fault.

It's still great on light batters and whipping cream.

I had the 3-speed Kitchenaide hand mixer for many years. It was reliable and powerful. I "upgraded" to this model because there was a good deal on the price. What a great decision. The speed control selection greatly improves my ability to use this mixer to prepare foods/recipes I could not with the 3- speed. This is a great hand mixer. It is as powerful as the Sears hand mixer we got for our wedding 36 years ago, that was super powerful and lasted for over 30 years. We've had this mixer for six months and it does not get heavy use, so how long it will last is hard to say. It replaced a mixer we have had for 23 years so it was with much searching around that we selected this one. The Amazon.com reviews were very encouraging and that Consumer Reports liked it so much also got it picked.

So far, it has plenty of muscle to mix the heavy gooey batters with ease; it also whips cream really well. The seven-speed predecessor had a problem with whipping cream due to inadequate high speed. That problem has apparently been solved with the nine-speed version.

So, with 22.5 years left to go on our longitudinal testing protocol J, everything is great to date.

Other than holding the mixer instead of letting the stand hold the mixer, you would be hard pressed to better the performance at anything close to the power of the KitchenAid 9-speed. It is able to do almost all of the tasks I would want other than maybe a large whole wheat bread dough. I could not be more pleased. The quality of the product and the thought that went into the design so that it is light, easy to clean and easy to handle as well as the choice of the various speeds available make it well worth the cost. The question is whether it is worth buying the more expensive stand mixer with all the attachments that you will use once a year when you can get most of the facility in this hand mixer and you can store the mixer off the counter. So long as you have a bowl that you can hold steady, you have almost all the functionality without using up all the space.

This really whips,mixes- I find it helpful to anchor the bowl by placing a towel beneath the bowl - this is a powerful hand mixer so start with #1 setting and work up to desired speed. It thoroughly mixes frostings, batters and the whip attachment does a nice job on egg whites. The beaters are easy to clean and the round cord does not collect food. The price was right too!!

I have used the 9-speed KitchenAid hand mixer several times, and it is much better than I could have imagined. It mixes merigues and everything so much faster than my old mixer.

The design is great, too. The mixer beaters and round cord are so easy to clean because of the stream-lined design. It is so easy to use.

The only tiny drawback is that the beaters must be put in the correct openings (they are not interchangeable).

I am thrilled with this purchase, and highly recommend this hand mixer.

For a decade, I've been using KitchenAid hand mixers to mix heavy dough, light batters, whip cream, make meringue, and mash potatoes. They are perfect for making cakes, cookies, fillings, pastries, and most baked goods. I've had 2 KitchenAid hand mixers, including this 9-speed, and both have run smoothly and powerfully enough for the stickiest cookie dough. The 9-speed weighs about 2 pounds, which feels heavy after 5 minutes of constant use, but never so much that it really bothered me. Unless you are making bread dough, mixing large quantities, or have a weak arm or arthritis, there is probably no need for a stand mixer. KitchenAid hand mixers will get the job done.

The KHM9PWH has 9 mixing speeds. The first three speeds are slow, or stirring, speeds. Speeds 4-6 could be called medium. 7-9 are fast to superfast. To run the mixer, you first flip on the power switch on the side. Then press "Run" with your thumb while holding the mixer. Two arrow buttons provide easy "speed up" and "slow down" control. The current speed is displayed digitally right above your thumb. The mixer gently comes to a halt, even from high speeds, when you press "Stop", just below the speed buttons. When running, the righthand (looking from above) beater spins normally, while the left beater makes a slight circular motion while spinning. If you're wondering about the difference between the 9-speed, 7-speed, and 5-speed models, using my previous, somewhat subjective, definitions: The 5-speed mixer has 1 slow speed, 3 medium speeds, and 1 fast speed. The 7-speed model has 2 slow speeds, 3 medium speeds, and 2 fast speeds. I find the additional slow speeds on the 9-speed mixer useful.

The mixer's surface is smooth for easy cleaning. All but the eject button are covered. The cord is also smooth and round so wipes off easily. The KHM9PWH comes with a single whisk attachment, which goes in the hole for the righthand beater. I've never found the whisk advantageous in whipping cream or meringue, but it might be beneficial in breaking up clumps in sauces. The whisk attachment is longer and wider than the beaters. It protrudes 7 inches when inserted in the mixer, instead of the beaters' 6 inches. The instruction book for the KHM9PWH is short but easy to understand, well-illustrated and contains 20 recipes, including suggestions for flavored whipped creams. The same instructions are provided in Spanish, but not the recipes.

I've been very pleased with my KitchenAid hand mixers, but they don't last as long as larger KitchenAid appliances. I've had the 9-speed for three years. Before that, I had a 7-speed model for 7 years. The motor never slowed down a bit. But I had to replace that mixer, because one of the beaters would no longer lock in place. I've always found that KitchenAid motors live up to their reputation, but other little things can go wrong.

One word folks...KITCHENAID! I am a Kitchenaid junkie and this hand mixer lives up to the name! I picked it because it has 9 speeds and I am glad I did. This is a great mixer, and definitely a step up from even other KitchenAid mixers. My previous model was KitchenAid's 5 Speed model, and while it lasted me a long and faithful time, it was a bit down on power, and the speed transitions between the different settings were not smooth. This 9-speed is almost as powerful as the new and popular immersion blenders (or boat-motors, as Emeril would say), but the smooth electronic transitioning between 9 different speeds gives the user a great deal of control which will prevent you from over-beating stuff.KitchenAid's patented beaters remain the best around in terms of maximum air incorporation into eggs or batter that you are working on. The electronic speed control is a flat and integrated switch, the whole surface of the mixer with the exception of the ejection nob is now one smooth unit that makes it extremely easy to clean. The mixer is not super light, but not annoyingly heavy, either, so you won't tire out on those longer 8-10 minute mixing steps that some cakes require

The only con I have found so far with this mixer is that it feels a tad heavy (might give an elderly person or a child some trouble). I can put up with the heaviness, though, because I love everything else about the mixer. I really like the digital control feature for adjusting the speed up or down or off. On the first speed you can so slowly begin mixing ingredients that you will never again have a splattering mess all over everything (unless you up the speed too fast, but you do have total control over that). It means a lot to me to have that extra slow speed! (Just a note -- until I got used to using the digital speed control, I inadvertently touched "off" without realizing it. I thought the mixer had quit working, but when I figured out what I had done wrong I did not have that problem again.) The included whisk is handy, and you can order another set of beaters from KitchenAid if you like the idea of having another set clean and ready to go if needed (say, if you were mixing a cake with raw eggs and then wanted to mix a frosting or whipped cream). The beaters and whisk are stainless steel so will not chip and rust like chrome might. This mixer is also quiet as can be. If you are considering a hand-mixer for your kitchen, this mixer really is the one. It is so powerful, yet so light and takes up little space. Really, I was able to do 3 batches of cookie dough at once with this mixer and it didn't bog down. You could really replace the stand mixer on your wish list with this 9-speed mixer and a couple of good mixing bowls that don't slip. Getting replacement or extra accessories is really easy - you can get them from Kitchen-Aid or a reseller. I got an immersion blender attachment, so I was able to stretch my mixer's use even more. Over the years, I have purchased several hand mixers and none can compare to this model by Kitchen Aid. This mixer is as close as one can get to professional equipment. Unlike most hand mixers, it has nine (digital) speed settings and and can easily handle heavy duty mixing needs. Other advantages are that it is lightweight, quiet, and very easy to clean.
