-> Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White

I've had this processor for nearly a decade now and it is still going strong. No issues at all with the motor.
It did always have the drawback of leaking all over the place when pureeing sauces so I had to get a blender for that kind of thing.
What is bugging me now is that the bowl has not held up very well and is showing nicks and scratches and even a few cracks. Nothing leaks yet but a replacement bowl costs over $30 and the lid is another $15. That's half the price of a whole new machine!
The other thing to note is that if you need to grind less than a cup of stuff it does not do too well. I've just ordered a cuisinart mini processor from Amazon to take care of that.
All in all a good machine at a reasonable price but not perfect.

I have had a cuisinart food processor in my kitchen since 1987. The reason I replaced my older one was because with wet hands I dropped the base on my stone tile kitchen floor. My "faithful" friend was shattered and not usable at all. Ordered my new one, used it recently and I am well pleased, although it is a cup smaller than "old faithful" was. I believe in the Cuisinart name and its products.

Well, what can one say about a Cuisinart ?!? As good as they come, I'd say. I had bought this one for my daughter, as I don't believe in NOT owning a Food Processor. She's gone on to the latest model from Cuisinart by now, but this one served her well. The blade stayed sharp, the disks are super helpful for shredding and slicing, the bowl is large and easy to empty with a spatula. Sarah Moulton from FoodTv is using hers constantly ! And so do thousands of other cooks. Will never be without my Cuisinart.!

This is the perfect food processor for the non professional. I usually use it to chop cheeses like mozzarella and hard cheeses like parmesan. It works wonderfully. I would recommend it for anyone that isn't going to use it daily. If you want to use it more frequently than I would recommend getting one with a larger cup capacity. But still make it a Cuisinart!!

Beware, as of 2/2/07 Cuisinart does not offer extra blade/disk options for the DLC-5 models. You only get the sizes that come, NO EXPANSION options (6mm, 2mm, French fry, fine grater, dough blade, etc).

I received the DLC-5 as a gift and was very excited the first time I used it. It cut great, was powerful, and easy to clean. I decided that I wanted a thicker cut for my carrots. I went online to find a disk/blade and discovered that there are NONE offered. Other models have plenty of options available.

Now I'm in a dead end. Does anybody know a work around?

For our wedding, my husband and I made the mistake of registering for a food processor/blender combo. After two years of fighting with it, having it leak, and having the food processor leave food in large pieces, we finally threw it out. In its place we purchased two separate units, with this being the food processor because it came recommended by Consumer Reports. We couldn't have made a better choice. It does everything it should and more. We have used it for multiple recipes and every time it does what we need. It's also easy to clean up... pieces fit right into dishwasher. We love it.

When my girlfriend recieved this for her birthday (she's a long time believer in the Cuisinart) I knew it would be an upgrade from my modest hand me down food processor, but I was blown away. First off it weighs a ton, which really means something with motors. The weight was put to good use, as it effortlessly mowed through food, and it did so with a delicacy that makes food so enjoyable (I ate enough pulverized crap as an infant, so I appreciate foods with texture, and the sharp blades make sure things stay the way they should). I never thought the difference between a regular food processor and a Cuisinart would be so dramatic, but it is. The 7 cup capacity is easily sufficient for a couple adults (I imagine you could throw in a few kids for good measure), and the included blades tend to most uses. It can allegedly do a good job mixing cakes and kneading dough, and based on its overall performance, I believe it, but I'd rather use my Kitchenaid mixer for that.

I LOVE my new food processor! It chops, grates, and slices to perfection! Why then, did I not give it 5 stars? Well, the feeding tube is an oval shape, which most foods are not, so usually I have to cut them before feeding them into the food processor. Also, when emptying the contents, the chopping blade has to be removed by hand or it will fall, endangering fingers and toes! Otherwise, it is an excellent machine, and for this price, you cannot turn it down!

As I said, I love this machine. The base fits well and does not shake while mixing ingredients. The grating attatchment actually grates the majority of the vegetable and the slicing attatchment is amazing. It is very sharp, so be careful! This is MORE than worth the small price here. I purchased the DLC-5 in November, 2004. It has been nothing but fantastic. The blades are still razor sharp, the motor power is generous for the bowl size. This is not my first food processor, having used both home and commercial (restaurant work) models. The other home model was horrible, I only had it a week it was so bad. In many restaurants, the "standard issue" processor is the DLC-10, a larger version, and another excellent food processor.
I mainly wanted it for making pie crusts (the BEST EVER way to make pie crusts is in a good food processor), but now use it for many other mundane chopping chores as well.
Its also easy to clean! A huge plus.

So many times I would want to cook something but the recipe would require a food processor. I have had a mini-prep for a while now but you can't really make several cups worth of salsa in a mini-prep [not that I don't love my mini-prep because I really love my mini-prep... I just used it successfully tonight in lieu of a spice grinder and it did the job like a little trooper]. So now I have this baby thanks to amazon.com's awesome small appliance sale, and I am all set. Diced onions for marinara sauce, no need to cry about it, you don't shed a tear with this little charmer. And I made peanut-crusted trout with pineapple-cilantro salsa for dinner which was fu**ing incredible [check out the recipe at epicurious.com], both the peanut crust and the salsa required a food processor and the whole thing came out knee-bucklingly awesome. I now eat better at home than I do at any restaurant that I can afford.

How it compares to other food processors, I have no idea. But I love it. The only thing I spend any money on anymore is food, and this precious thing has made cooking [and the eating that follows] just that much more of a treat.

I am using it for around 2 months and I am happy with its performance. I uses it for Indian food like dough, chilli/onion,garlic paste, crushing the spinach, curliflower, coconut, carrots , salad etc

Pros:
It plastic is sturdy.
It is easy to clean.
Its sound level is normal.

Cons
The slicer comes with it is little thin. They sells 1/4 inch slicer seperately (in $20)
It is heavy, It sticks with counter so well you need to apply lot of power to move it.
It is not worth to take one star out for these.

Make sure you will add water gradually until dough stops sticking the walls and then let it run for 30 seconds. It will stick all to the walls if more water is added at this stage. Also don't try to add more flour to compansate more water, it will make a big mess.

No doubt, you might be intrigued by the relative savings offered on this model compared to other processors - including the more modern-looking Cuisinarts. Well, there is, as they say, a reason for everything.

I have used both a small older Mini-Prep as well as the DLC-2007 (the futuristic one). Both were awesome - they blended thoroughly and RARELY leaked (only when it was my fault and I filled the suckers full of liquid.

Anyhow, they passed the "how much do I get for my money" test with flying colors. This machine does not.

Each time I have used this thing - be it for cooked vegetables, salsa or pesto, the freaker leaked from the well. Unlike the other two Cuisinarts I mentioned - which were the older sister and the same-age sister, respectively, to this model - this one has a blade that fits LOOSELY on its inner assembly. Thus, whatever you are blending works its way up right out of the cylinder and into the well, from which it drips everywhere. The counter, the machine, the bowl.

I mean it - do not buy this model. It really sucks. You may save money, but you won't save time or headaches.

Amazon does not offer them, so you need to buy from the manufacturer or third parties, $29.30 plus shipping. I am now on my third bowl (just ordered), and second cover. I bought this food processor almost on a whim. I knew I wanted one, and I felt sure I could find some use for it, but I wasn't sure exactly why I wanted it or what I'd use it for. Since I purchased it a year ago, I have found myself using it far more often than I thought I would, and for tasks I always thought I could do just fine by hand. I don't eat meat much, so I cook with vegetables frequently -- this food processor makes short work of chopping almost anything, either with the S-blade or with the included grating and slicing discs. I use it at least once a week, and I definitely feel it's worth the money I spent.

One bit of advice: When they say not to use other spatulas or utensils to scrape the work bowl, they mean it, at least when the S-blade is in place. I unthinkingly used one of my other spatulas to scrape the bowl one night and the blade cut it to ribbons.

From the makers of the original home food processors, it's maybe a little small for some tasks, but for most food processor needs it does the job perfectly and takes up little space compared to much bigger processors.

The negative soup comments are off base because you shouldn't be pureeing soup in a food processor, that's what the blender is for. Each kitchen item has it's proper uses and though there is some overlap, if you own them, you should always use the best tool for the job.

->Lowest Price Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White

Perhaps you are thinking, "Do I really need a food processor?" The answer is, "Yes!"

Twenty years ago I bought the same model as this one and it has seen daily use and is still running strong! I thought I wouldn't really use it that much, but once you start using it you find that it makes food preparation so much quicker that soon you can't do without it! Not only is it great for slicing and chopping, but it is also great for preparing bread dough (no more hand kneading!), pureeing, and making peanut butter.

The only time I use a blender instead of the food processor is when I'm pureeing a large amount of liquid (like a hot soup), because it will leak out of the food processor.

Because of the food processor, I find that I make lots of recipes that I formerly wouldn't have because they used to take too much time.

Caution: The blades are razor SHARP! The first week I had my processor, I pulled bread dough off the blade without being very careful, and sliced off the top of my thumb! After 20 years, the blades are still very sharp. The work bowl is a bit scratched and dull, but after 20 years it's a miracle that it's still in one piece!

For my small family, the 7-cup capacity is just right. If I had a larger family, I might invest in one of the larger processors.

I'm delighted with the results of my efforts. Now if only I could find the accessories I need I would be in cook's heaven. Hooray for this wonderful appliance! On Sunday's I watch a variety of cooking shows and without fail there is always a Cuisinart food processor on the sleek professional kitchen counters. Happy in Garden City and still cooking at 73!

I received this item as a gift and could not be happier with it. I primarily use it for blending up my 8 month old's baby food, but have also used it for basic everyday meals. It gives a very consistent blend and is fabulous for multiple item blends such as salsa. An extra bonus: it's extremely quiet!! Super for late night blendings when the baby is asleep. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a good, solid processor that doesn't cost an arm and a leg

->Purchase Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White

I received this food processor for Christmas, and was at first disappointed that it was the "low-end" of the Cuisinart line, but after using it twice since, I am more than pleased with its performance.

First of all, I was very pleased that it came not only with the "S" blade but two other grating/slicing blades, and a spatula. The older packages did not include these and required additional purchases.

Second, when it comes to preparing things that need slicing and chopping, the Cuisinart does a great job. Having made an apple pie at thanksgiving by manually chopping apples, the Cuisinart makes otherwise labor-intensive cooking MUCH easier.

For the price, this product is a great value and does 90% of the things most of us cooking at home need to do. Cuisinart has been around a long time, and many recipes in today's cookbooks actually recommend you have one in your kitchen, so this unit is a great value for the price and will make cooking easier and more enjoyable.

Review: No Liquids

->Deals Cuisinart DLC-5 7-Cup Capacity Food Processor, White

I wish I had listened to the review on this product about liquids. I used it once and it's going back. You can't put no more than 3 cups of liquid it. For that kind of money you should be able to put 7 cups of soup in it without it going all over the floor. If a blender can be made not to leak why can't a food processor?

I used my Cuisinart for the first time this weekend. I could not find enough stuff to put in and chop. It is just great. Everything chops so fast and easy. Very easy cleanup. Every kitchen needs to have one of these if you cook at home.

Review: Will it chop/shred chicken or other meat?

The reviews were excellent and filled with information I wanted to know. The only thing missing is something I need to know as I have to chop up quite a bit of raw chicken and other meats along with raw vegetables for a raw diet for our cats (Abyssinians) who thrive on our up-till-now hand-chopped bits of chicken.

For some reason, I'd never used a food processor before. Very easy to use and very easy to clean up. It comes w/ the standard chopper, a shredder, and a slicer. It does not include the dough thing.

A real time saver with excellent results for chopping, mincing, pureeing, and slicing. I'm impressed with the way it handles small amounts relatively well.

Remember: If you haven't owned one of these, the blades are VERY sharp. If you have children, you MUST keep these even further away than knives. Like knives, I hand clean the blades immediately after use and place them directly in the storage location.

I went out and bought a variety of vegetables & fruits to get a feel for how well the Cuisinart performed the various functions. I highly recommend doing this before actually preparing a dish. It shreds, chops and slices at an incredible speed. Slicing and shredding functions resulted in very unform results. You'll want to be very quick with the pulse button when chopping. Pulsing on for a second several times is all it takes to produce nicely chopped items. Cleans up easily.

This is by far one of my favorite appliances. We all know the quality Cuisinart is known for. This appliance is very heavy, and can do some work for you! I use mine for the normal, slicing, shredding, and chopping. This comes with a great video that shows you all about your appliance. After watching this, I realized I can use this for baking bread, you just pour everything in and mix, no kneading! I use this to make cookies, or when ever else, I need something mixed in a jiffy. This is simple to clean. One of qualities that I enjoy the most is the no nonsense design of this. Its easy to put together! All of the parts go into the dishwasher too. You can ask for much more than what this appliance will offer to you.
