Works fine for most applications. Only issue I have so far (3 months) is that the whisk doesn't fit the bowl shape well enough to whip small amounts of cream, or egg yolks. The latter is more of a problem as I want to use the unit to make mayonnaise and similar sauces.

I grew up using a KitchenAid. I've missed it for 20 years and am glad to finally get one. It works great! The only problem is that small batches don't get mixed well as it is more suited to large quantities. The flour at the bottom never seems to get incorporated into the mixture. It had the same problem 30 years ago. You would have thought they would fix it by now. (It seems to be the bowl design.) But I still like the machine.

BUT...if you mix a lot, like to bake, and want something that will last, here it is...made in USA, my goodness for the price you can't beat them!! (They are 100-150 higher at higher end retail stores)

I have read where the plastic gears in these shave off and if you're like me (aka don't own a bakery) you'll have no problem. If you're like my grand ma who got up at 3:30 AM daily to bake 12 loaves of bread everyday get the professional model...LOL

This is the second KitchenAid Pro mixer I've owned. This mixer is reconditioned, but it appears to be brand new. It works perfectly. My first KitchenAid lasted 12 years and I used it at least several times a week. It probably would have lasted forever had I not accidentally dropped the splatter guard into the mixing bowl while it was in operation. I discovered that the mixer is definitely not indestructible and I was somewhat surprised. The one thing that drives me crazy about this mixer is the splattering. It makes a huge mess without the guard. It's really easy to drop the guard into the mixer, but I know now that I must stop the mixer before touching the guard. Also, NEVER try to put a spoon into the mixer while it is in operation. It is tempting, since it is a pain to lower the bowl to mix the ingredients. The beater reaches the sides more than most mixers, but it still isn't perfect. It is always necessary to lower the bowl and stir ingredients and then remix. This is also a huge chunk of metal and it is a fixture that is not easily moved often. I keep it on my kitchen counter, even though I would prefer not to. I bought several mixers after I tore my KitchenAid up and they just don't compare. I spent about $70 on a Hamilton Beach stand mixer that tore up after the first week of use. I know that I've said some negative things about this mixer, but of the many mixers I've owned, none compare to this one.

Don't mind my bad spelling but........We rate it Four Stars becuase of the expectations of KitchenAide products are high. We believe that this model is great for holiday and weekend bakers/cooks. Not for the everyday, likes to make everything under the sun type( if you are thats great!). The value is awesome and recommend that you buy the pouring shield along with it ( around 20$). Power is at a 7 becuase there are stronger models available. Duribality is an 8. Versatility is a 9. Easy use is a 8.5. And cleaning is a 9. Value is a 10... So overall its an 8.6! So take some time to read other reviews and to helpb make your choice, but we recommend KithenAide brand of mixers overall.

Review: Want More Power and Metal Gears, Go With The RKG25H0X

->Cheap Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I noticed the great price on this machine, but after checking the specs, I decided to go with an upgraded model. If I'm gonna finally get a KitchenAid, I want to get the best machine possible, and for only $30 more, you can get the RKG25H0XWH which features metal gears (the RRK5A has nylon) and a 450-watt motor (the RRK5A has only 300-watts).

A KitchenAid mixer should last for life, so my advice is buy as much mixer as you can. At $159, the RKG25H0XWH gives you a lot more for your money.

Review: Bread kneading
by: on date: September 4, 2006

->Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

You guys do know that you shouldnt fully knead the bread dough in the mixer. You start it partially and knead the rest by hand so you dont over work the dough. then you let it rise, then punch it down and then form it into the shape you need then bake away. Kneading the whole process in a mixer is a lazy mans way of making bread. we used this same mixer through my Le cordon bleu culinary program and it worked fine.

Bought this mixer a year ago and have only great things to say about it. Only $100 shipped free and was worth double the price. But just upgraded to the Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RKV25HOXWH Professional 5 Plus 5-Quart Stand Mixer, White. With the recent sale was only a nudge under $125 delivered. How can you beat that? It has metal gears and 125 watts more power. I will keep both to use when entertaining so that two can prepare different things at once. I can not express how happy I am with these mixers or with how amazon has enabled me to put a kitchen together that makes cooking a joy. As a note, if I were forced to choose, I would choose the KitchenAid RKV25HOXWH Professional 5 Plus 5-Quart Stand Mixer over this one. More power and metal gears, only draw back being two less attachments. But with the recent sale it is $40 less than this one and is far more machine.

Review: Good for most needs
by: Cynthia S. Froning on date: March 11, 2005

->Best Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I owned this mixer for several years, and in size and power it is suitable for most baking needs. Once I became interested in bread making, though, this mixer revealed its limitations. As other reviewers have pointed out, when kneading a tough dough for several minutes, the motor gets very hot. I finally burned it out (despite careful watching) on a brioche dough, which requires 15 minutes of kneading. If you are into bread making, or if you are cooking for a large family and make double batches, the Professional series is a better bet.

Review: Mostly great, except for double batches...
by: Lynette Yee on date: January 1, 2005

->Deal Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

While researching reviews on stand mixers, I read that you want at least 325 watts to do bread. This mixer came up on a Friday deal and I got such a good price, I decided to purchase it instead of holding out for the Professional 6. Overall, for the price I am happy, but would recommend a larger motor for people who do lots of thick mixes or bread.

Power: It has no problem making cookies but when I did a double batch, the motor seemed to struggle a little on slower speeds (but it did mix it). I've also made marshmallows and whipped cream and biscotti in this mixer, and they have been fine (but only single batches of each). I love being able to walk away and leave something mixing! It sure makes baking quicker...

Bowl-lift: No problem whatsoever; the attachments reach to the bottom and the bowl feels steady. (Sidenote: just make sure you lock the bowl-lift fully!) I know other people like the tilt head, but the advantage of the bowl-lift is that you can put a bowl of ice underneath the mixing bowl to keep the contents cool. For example, when whipping cream, I not only put my mixing bowl in the freezer beforehand, but I'll also put a bowl of ice underneath just to make sure it keeps it cold if the mixer will need to be running a while.

Wished-for features that are available on other models: As said before, a more powerful motor for double batches of cookies so I wouldn't be fearful I was straining the motor. Also, I wish it had a slow-start so that dry ingredients would not go flying when I start it since even "1" is powerful. Last, the refurbished model doesn't come with a shield, which would also prevent me from having flour around the mixer. (But I'm planning on buying that separately.)

Refurbished: This mixer looks and acts brand-new! I've been trying to bake as often as possible to keep testing it while it's under the 6 month full warranty, and while I'm only a month into it, I don't forsee any problems.

So, overall I recommend this mixer if:
a) you aren't afraid of refurbs -- I'm not because it still has a full 6-month warranty
b) you don't bake double batches of anything gooey, or lots of bread
c) you have room to put it -- it's too heavy to bring out every time you need to use it, and because it has a bowl-lift instead of tilt head, it is taller than the Artisan mixer.

Ordered this white on white colored Heavy Duty 325Watt model on Monday night and received the unit Wednesday. The mixer looked great, almost new. Attachments had a few scratches. Was very excited to finally try out my mixer...UNTIL...

I tried to make a bread recipe that only called for 6 cups of flour. This model should have been able to handle it w/o problems. I started out w/ my 2 cups of liquids and 3 cups of flour. Worked fine for 2 minutes. Stopped the mixer to add another cup. Worked fine for another minute. Added the 5th cup and the mixer began to struggle slightly. Added a half cup, and the mixer started going crazy. Keep in mind I never exceeded the recommended Speed 2. But during that 6th cup, something went wrong and the mixer acted as if it got a turbo boost and started turning at least twice the speed than set. Even at speed 1, it seemed like it was speed 4. I immediately turned it off, but the mixer was only slight warm, not even hot to the touch.

Tried to call KitchenAid, but they are already closed this Friday night. Will call Saturday morning to hopefully arrange a replacement.

I'm rating this purchase a 1 star for a defective product. Buyer beware on these refurbished units.

UPDATED 12/27/04:
Amazon shipped out a replacement mixer. Kudos to them for expediting the replacement.

Keep It Simple Stupid. That is the motto of this mixer. Many will complain about the lack of tiltable head or it doesn't have this fancy thing or that fancy thing. That is a good thing.

The Kitchenaid mixer is a workhorse. It is designed to last a lifetime under lots of use and abuse. Rugged and reliable all the way.

It also has nice attachments. Juice fruit, grind grain, grind meat, roll pasta, knead dough, mix cakes, grate cheese, whatever. There are more attachments for this than any other mixer I know. It is just flexable and reliable.

If you can tell that this is refurbished, then please let me know how! I've had this mixer for about 3 years, it sits on my counter and just about everyone who comes to my house is jealous. It is a bowl-lift type like seen on cooking shows. It is so powerful that I can leave it running to knead bread dough for about 15 minutes without any problem in having to move the dough around in the bowl. It's like the mixer has some kind of way of knowing what to do. It will also whip up whipped cream in no time flat, and if it keeps whipping, will make butter.
The mixer also came with a recipe guide and the pie crust recipe with the apple pie recipe puts my mom's apple pie to shame. Every recipe I've tried is flawless and easy. I also purchased the slicer/shredder and when large amounts of grated cheese are needed, this attachment makes it a very easy task. When people say they don't know how they lived without a Kitchen Aid mixer, they're not kidding. It is a beautiful machine that my daughter is already hoping to inherit.

->Best Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I find the mixer cumbersome to operate in not being able to tilt the head and the bowl being so deep. It is difficult to scrape the bowl and add ingredients as it is mixing. I would never have bought this mixer if I had realized the head does not tilt. I did not research thoroughly enough. It never occurred to me such drastic changes could/would be made to a mixer. I also notice the technical data mentions it includes a pouring shield. This was not included nor did I think it would be when I made the purchase as it was not pictured. I am selling it.

My mother has used this product in her kitchen for many years.
Just about all my baking knowledge I got from working along side
her in the kitchen. Knowing first hand of what this appliance can
and will do was my main reason for the purchase. It totally makes
the task of whipping together ingredients very simple. An for bread making you take away the labor of hand kneading by allowing
the machine to do the work. My suggestion is if you have a good

Since I received my KitchenAid mixer I can make sugar cookies for everybody. Before with my other mixer I could only make one batch because the mixer would not mix it so I had to mix it by hand. I really think that was the best gift I have received.

This mixer is just so cool. It looks great and mixes so beautifully! You just put your ingredients in and start mixing. You don't ever have to scrape the sides or the bottom to be sure it mixes evenly because it just does! I only wish it was 2 inches shorter so it would fit under my kitchen cabinets.

I received my KitchenAid 5 quart stand mixer a little over a week ago, since it's refurbished I hadn't expected it to be in LIKE-NEW condition, but it is! It's a beauty! I've been looking for recipes to include in my daily mealplans that allow me to use my mixer. I also bought the roto slicer/shredder and love it too! The ease of use and clean up for the mixer and attachment is wonderful! It did take awhile to receive since I used the free shipping, but was within the time frame given to me at purchase and well worth the wait. If your thinking of purchasing a KitchenAid stand mixer go for it, you won't be sorry. It truely is the BEST MIXER EVER!!

->Purchase Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I recently purchased, after much debate, a reconditioned Kitchen Aid mixer - the 5 quart 325-Watt lift bowl big boy! I was so pleased... It came to me seemingly in brand new condition and was flawless in operation. I was so pleasantly surprised! This was a dream item for me until I found it. I have made pizza dough, cookies, E'clairs, buttermilk pie... and I have only had it two weeks and really only cook on the weekends! This model/size is big and heavy and isn't a store in the cabinet and pull out when needed item (but it kneads pizza dough like nobody's business!). I have mine in the corner countertop space and it looks gorgeous. Also it is easy to use and clean.. This is one kitchen appliance that after two weeks, I wonder how I lived without it:)

I can't tell you how much I love this mixer! I would buy one in every color if I could, but that would just be silly...It was just delivered a few hours ago and I am so happy with it! I am planning my menus for the days to come and everything I make will have to be either whipped or beaten...my next investment will have to be the pasta maker/sausage attachments!

I was skeptical about purchasing a refurbished item, but am glad I took the risk. My mixer arrived in perfect cosmetic condition. Within 5 minutes of the UPS driver leaving my door, I was making cookies. After using the mixer for a few weeks, it developed a vibration when mixing thicker dough, and at higher speeds. I contacted KitchenAid and they replaced the mixer within a week. They made the arrangements for UPS to pick up the original mixer, no charge to me. I have noticed that the bowl lift mechanism rocks a bit when mixing cookie dough, I'm not sure if this is normal, otherwise, it works well. I'm very pleased with the mixer, and the price was great. Overall, it was a great buy, I'd recommend it to others.

As soon as my wife and I got it out of the box and cleaned up from packageing dust. The first thing that I made was chocolate chip cookies from the recipe part of the owners manual. Best cookies that I have ever made, because the kitchenAid whips up the butter,vanella,suger and eggs much better then the two beater systems do. I recommend this product to the newly married couple or even to the single person who wants the best tasteing cookies and mashed potatos that are mashed and not lumpy.

I will never by another two beater system ever again.

->Sale Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I have had my KitchenAid mixer for over 20 years. I use it for everything. It makes the fluffiest egg whites and gives great volume to angel food cakes. It also handles extremely heavy doughs with ease and does not bog down. The most amazing thing it has ever done is beat stone-cold, frozen butter, straight out of the freezer. While KitchenAid probably does not recommend using a KitchenAid mixer this way, it sure helps me when I have to bake and have forgotten to defrost the butter ahead of time.

This is not a "disposable" mixer. This mixer is commercial grade and very well made. Mine has lasted for a long time, and if I ever have to replace it, it will be with another KitchenAid 5-quart mixer.

-> Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

Me and my wife got one of these for a wedding gift and the first thing we noticed is that it was way too big for anything we wanted to make and would not mix the little amount of stuff we had in the bottom of the mixing bowl. So we traded it in for a smaller model. We found out that even the smallest model has a hard time mixing any regular sized batch of anything (from cookies to bread). If we leave the mixer alone, we come back and there is still unmixed ingrediants in the bottom of the bowl. It is easier to just use a hand mixer. Another problem is that it is almost impossible to add ingrediants to the bowl without buying the [optional] attachment. And last but not least, the dang screws keep coming loose on the machine and they have to be re-tightened every few times we use it. Overall, we are very dissatisfied with the product and would not recommend it to anyone.

Review: This is not 73% off as advertised

->Affordable Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

This is a wonderful item. However, the banner advertising this item at this site is very misleading. The banner states that this item is being sold for "73% off." In fact, this is a used (reconditioned) unit. It is being offered at full retail price for a reconditioned unit. If this were a new unit, then the claim of "73% off"would be more honest but it is not. In fact, a search of even this site's offerings of the item new reveal that this is 73% off of an MSRP but perhaps only 50% off the available new price.

I don't understand why such a good organization feels compelled to intentionally engage in misleading advertising.

Our "factory reconditioned" KitchenAid mixer came not in a very good condition out of box. The white color body got a good number of dings and dents covered by refinish paint dots. There were also patches of machine oil around various parts of the motor housing.

Alas, the problems were not only cosmetic.

Our first use of it found strange noises developed from the motor or certain internal mechanism. The second time, the motor outright refused to run.

We had no choice but to return it.

I owned the 5-quart K'Aid for roughly three years. Like many
Americans, I'd grown up thinking these were the best mixers available.
So, when the time came to move up from my little Sunbeam I went for
the 5-quart.

I grind my own grain and quickly discovered this
machine is weak in the knees when it comes to bread dough. Not only
is it limited in the amount it can do, but it also got so hot kneading
that the head would get truly hot to the touch. I contacted K'aid at
the time and they told me that was normal, just to be sure and let the
mixer cool between batches. While I wanted to make more loaves, it
was a strain on the machine to get through two loaves at a time. It
did, however, make beautifully smooth mixes and batters. I resolved
to replace it when I could affort it. (...)

Look around before rushing out and buying KitchenAid--there are other
choices!

Review: Soft Nylon Gears!

->Affordable Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I have this refurbished model in the Imperial Gray. It is a nice-looking addition to my countertop. For most projects, it does an excellent job! HOWEVER, the manual was excessively optimistic in its claims that this mixer can knead two loaves of wheat bread dough! Be aware that the gears are all NYLON, and the motor is plenty strong enough to strip the gears when it lugs down on stiff wheat dough. I have done so THREE TIMES now. Kitchenaid is now marketing a 6-quart "professional" model with all steel gears and a circuit breaker ... If you are going to buy a Kitchenaid mixer for real bread, go the extra mile for the tougher model. ...

Review: Heavy Duty Mixing
by: Constant Troyon on date: July 29, 2001

->Shipping Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid RRK5AWH 5-Quart Mixer, White

I recommend this mixer/model/size (for heavy duty home mixing). ... Smaller models have tilt head instead of the crank lift (crank lift is harder to remove the bowl). Larger models (wattage & capacity) have cool colors & brushed metal and even bigger bowls. Very heavy/large/powerful/tall. My one complaint would be the weight and the height (won't fit under my cabinets). Excellent for: whipping eggs & double/triple batches of cookie dough (primary reason I bought this model was for cookies) & heavy stuff like double batches of cream cheese frosting (this was the best surprise with it). This model is suppose to handle a double batch of bread dough (haven't tried it). It has 6 speed settings numbered Stir-2-4-6-8-10 (speed 6 is like the highest speed on my hand mixer - but with heavy gear power). I use stir-2-4, I think 10 is for helicopter rides. Speed/time for most recipes must be reduced for this mixer (if all you mix is boxed cake mixes then you don't need, nor do you even want, this mixer). My co-worker (she loves this same 325-watt model) bought the optional pouring shield for splattering - I bought it for pouring convenience (it's [a] useful piece of plastic - get it). ... But why are they needing to be reconditioned (not as heavy duty as I think or people don't read the instructions about the bread dough)???

I bought this mixer before the 6qt ones were available about 2 years ago. I can't say enough. Its sturdy (in fact really heavy). I use it mainly for cooking for parties, & cookie dough. It is great for whipping egg whites for souffles, couldn't do without it! I payed over $350.00 for mine so this is a true bargain. Also, Kitchen Aid has such great customer service.
