Loving this mixer! More than that, I LOVE that by purchasing it through Amazon I was able to get the exact same mixer that my friend paid $300.00 dollars for, for almost half the price. The one nuissance about the mixer(the reason I gave it 4 stars, instead of 5) is the crease in the bottom of the mixing bowl. If you're not careful, some of the flour settles into the crease, and is therefore left in the bottom of the bowl when the mixing is done. Otherwise, I am happy with this purchase.

I'm giving this mixer only 4 stars because of the problems we had getting a working one. The first one never operated right; it eventually smoked, sparked and blew a fuse. Repeated attempts to deal with KitchenAid directly were highly unsatisfactory--reps kept promising to fix it and then did nothing. Amazon did the right thing; they made returning the defective mixer easy and immediately replaced it with a new model. P.S. I love the color. So far, I've made only 2 batches of brownies. The first one I made without reading the directions carefully, and I used the wire wisk by mistake. When I made the second batch, I used the correct beater and was very pleased with the way it mixed the ingredients together. It is easy to lock in the bowl and beaters and change the speeds.

My mother used a Kitchen Aid mixer her entire life, and when I got older and became serious about baking, I too thought I would buy a Kitchen Aid mixer, and I expected the mixer to be the only mixer I would ever have to buy. Wow, was I wrong.
I bought my mixer (WS4494931, Model KSM15OPSWH) yesterday and from the first use I had nothing but problems, odd sounds, odors, along with sparks flashing from the inside of the motor, and finally the device simply would not turn on. I returned the mixer to the store, and being the open-minded person I am, decided to give Kitchen Aid brand another shot. The second mixer still omitted an odor, but I was told that this was normal for a new mixer motor, and seemed quieter; however, speed 2 does not work. When I move the speed selector from Stir, to 2, there is no change in speed.
I bought a Kitchen Aid without doing research because I trusted the brand name, and of course because my mother used hers for so long, but once I started researching Kitchen Aid on the Internet, I see that I am not the only person who has experienced the same issues with Kitchen Aid mixers.
I am totally disappointed with my purchase and will return it to the store that I purchased it from. I will also not buy Kitchen Aid appliances again.
It's a shame that Kitchen Aid has let the quality of their product go down hill.

I bought this for my wife who enjoys cooking and baking frequently. We had the white Artisan 5 Qt. mixer for almost four years. Never had a problem or any other issues. We used it at once a week to mix baking dough. This unit didn't have a tilt heard so we decided to get the new unit. When we wanted to purchase it it was around $299 and read a review mentioned a customer purchasing for $199. We decided to wait it was Mother's day week expecting people to pay a premium for their purchases. Waited nearly a week and it was true, Amazon dropped the price by $100 making it for $199. Made the purchase immediately thinking they will jack up the price again. We have used it for few times, just like our first KitechenAid this seemed to work without problems. Hopefully this will last us for a while.
It's a sturdy unit and doesn't wobble or move on the counter. Tilt head and the splash guard makes big difference. So far we love i.

I've owned one of these for many years.I bought one for my girl friend because I broke her even older one in a move.(I dropped it from a considerable height. This mixer is tough, but not, I can attest, indestructable). If you make bread or cookies or anything that needs mixing, this is the tool. I own a KA Artisan Series 5-Qt. Stand Mixer in "Blue Willow." I am a casual baker and am relatively new in the kitchen and prior to making this purchase, I did quite a bit of research on stand mixers. I found that the questions you have to ask yourself prior to making this purchase are:
(1) Do you really need one, and, if the answer is yes, then;
(2) Is this a one-time purchase, and;
(3) Which stand mixer actually *fits* your needs?
Though I was tempted to get a big 6-Qt professional, bowl-lifting, super cool mixer, I realized that I generally cook for two people and that I would not need to ever really mix 14-cups of flour or 8 pounds of potatoes. Even if I did, I'd be doing it in smaller batches anyway. So that brought me back to my senses and I considered the KA Artisan.
Comparatively:
Oddly, it only has 325 watts of power. Other stand mixers of this size offer up to 500 watts; the KA 6 Qt. Pro offers 525 watts and a bowl "lift" function. I don't know if this makes a huge difference, but my KA stands up to whatever I put in it. I use it to make mostly cookie and bread doughs. It comes with three accessories: flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip. The flat beater is very versatile and I have really appreciated not having to wrestle with my crappy hand-mixer when mixing things like softened cream cheese. I can throw it all into the bowl at once and walk away to start something else.
Cleanup:
It's a snap. While I tend to still get flour all over "The Fuselage," as I call my mixer, it wipes off in a jiffy because of the sleek exterior. I don't find the "chute" of the pouring shield especially "easy" to add ingredients, especially when it's flour from a big mixing bowl. The chute is not quite wide enough and flour tends to spill, so sometimes I don't use it, but this creates "splash-up" instead, so it's kind of a no-win situation. The steel bowl is absolutely smooth and so there are no real ridges inside the bowl for anything to stick to. The accessories twist off in a one-handed motion, are very secure and heavy, and are coated with a slick, non-stick, white finish - washing up is absolutely easy.
Counter Space:
You cannot put this away, or you will never get it out again. So for small apartment dwellers, you must think about your counterspace. I am a pretty small female, and to me, is HEAVY, HEAVY, HEAVY. While this is good because it doesn't wobble or "walk" across the countertop when it's mixing, this also makes it a gigantic pain to drag it out. So anticipate that it will take up about 1 cubic foot of your countertop forever and that you should have it somewhere where you don't have to move it.
Mixing:
It is very, very thorough. It has some weird "planetary mixing action," but whatever that means, it mixes mostly everything evenly. Turn it off before you stick your spatula in. It handles the stickiest focaccia dough to meringue perfectly, and the bowl "locks in" to the base, so you don't have to worry about it flying off.
Attachments:
These are super pricey in most cases, but the one that seems to draw the most raves is the pasta cutter (apprx. $100). KA constantly has deals and sometimes has nice packaged deals on their website, so check there as well. I have seen KA offer different accessories (including this one) for free on rebate, so watch for those. KA also is constantly flogging "The Mixer Bible" by Meredith Deeds and on their website, they sometimes have an ask-and-answer with the author. I do recommend getting a stand-mixer cover, or if you want to make one, there are several patterns available on the internet. I'm lazy and cheap, so I use a big dishrag and that has worked so far.
Overall, I'm glad I made the purchase. When I do use "the Fuselage" for baking jobs, it performs flawlessly and makes the baking much, much easier - you can get a good look at your dough consistency, etc. instead of worrying about if your frosting has unmixed chunks in it, or if your hand mixer is going to tip your entire bowl of pudding over while you run to get some missed ingredient. By proxy, its ease of use turns you into a better cook in the end. More relaxed, anyway, and if that's worth a couple hundred dollars to you, then by all means, buy it.

It's been over 2,5 years since i've purchased this mixer (caviar shade) and the only word i can tell about it - perfect! Oh, ok, 2 words - lifesaver!
I bake A LOT! Most of the time - daily. And this mixer serves me best. I don't even think of buying a bread machine - it kneads any type of bread perfectly - yeast, soda, sourdough. It makes perfect buttercreams of all kinds (silk vanilla from the Baking Illustrated, simple buttercream), wonderful whipped cream and all other sorts of cake icings, frostings and toppings.
Meat grinder attachment - perfect aswell! Here's the trick to grinding without clogging - cut your meat into strips 1/2-3/4in thick and put it into freezer for 1 hour. Slightly frozen meat is much esier to grind.
I recommend this mixer to all my baking and cooking friends! Is 5-quart enough? It was just twice during these years that i thought i might need a bigger bowl but still this machine managed to do everything great!

I was skeptical buying this thing for my GF last year. I didn't think the brand or style of mixing device would have any effect on how the food turned out. Wrong! i do a lot of cookies. that's my specialty.
the only gripe i had is maybe the bowl could be bigger so i could do my triple batches, but whatever. i cant afford a more expensive one just so it would have a bigger bowl.
i got to use it for the first time tonight on my oatmeal raisin. yeah a little noise, but not unexpected or scary. there was a little movement too, but again not unexpected considering how thick the mixture is.
i had to lift it every once in awhile to make sure that all the mixture was getting beat in but didnt really need to- everything got mixed very thoroughly; much easier than having to stand there with the hand mixer and fight with it.
i havent messed with the dough hook simply because i use a breadmaker for that, and i havent used the whip because i really never have needed that either.
i am looking forward to getting some of the attachments, especially the ice cream one and the meat grinder. we try to eat as "natural" as possible, and i am looking forward to doing ground chicken and other things.
i know its not an investment to enter into lightly, but its well worth the money because i know this will last me into my middle age.
i love the heft of this machine also. i am one that buys the most durable things i can; i have a sewing machine that was made in switzerland, and i can tell this is the same type of construction- all metal.

I bought my first KitchenAid mixer 25 years ago. It was my most used appliance. I decided I deserved an upgrade and I'm very happy with it. I especially like that the head tips back. I used the other kind that lifts up when I owned a coffee house and was not impressed with it. I also like that all my attachments still fit my new mixer. And I like the mixing guard. I had one before but gave it away because its design was simply too clumsy. This one is very cleverly designed and I use it often. I can't imagine owning a different brand of mixer.

I love the KitchenAid...It works great for Kneading Dough which we make our flat bread (rotis) everyday. I am surprised i did not buy it before and kneaded dough with hands all this years. The only one slight thing is that sometimes some flour is left at the bottom probably needs some adjustment other than that love the product for the couple weeks I have used.

The color is bright and fun. My kitchen has more of a rust orange color in it but this contrasts well. I got this as a gift after pining over it for quite sometime. I have never been much of a cook but the KitchenAid stand mixer makes baking and cooking so much fun that I feel like I am a pseudo-chef in my little kitchen. Everything I have made so far has turned out perfect (seriously!). Even the loaf of bread I made turned out fabulous--and bread is no easy feat! In one week's time I have also made delicious chocolate chip cookies, french vanilla ice cream (get the ice cream attachment!) and lemon sorbet.

HOLY COW!!!! How much do I love this mixer?!?!?!? The speeds are great, and I can make cream cheese icing in just 2 minutes, even if I forgot to take the cream cheese and butter out of the fridge!
I have wanted one of these for years, but never bought one - hello, who wants to spend $399 on a kitchen appliance?!?!?! - but then I found it on sale, with free shipping... it was only $199.99...and since I had the money at the time, I bought it - and boy am I glad I did...
It mixes super quickly, and even the instructions say that mixing things like cake batter will take less time than normal - and the 5 quart bowl is big enough to hold a DOUBLE batch of the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie recipe (found on the back of the Butter Flavor Crisco can! - but double he chips, and throw in some buterscottch chips, too - YUM-O!!!)
The thing you need to wach out for is adding too much flour (or dry ingredients) at once.... it will make a cloud of them if you do.... so just take your time adding them, and your kitchen will be cloud free!

There is a big problem, you know the spinning iron stick that connects to 3 different heads, around it there is some dark machine grease, which sometimes turns into crust and falls into the mixture without you noticing.
I noticed it when i was making mashed patatos, if patatos were not bright color, i would have not noticed it and probably ended up eating it.

I have only had my KitchenAid mixer for a few weeks now and I've made chocolate chip cookies and two different breads. It worked great and it was wonderful having free hands while mixing the ingredients! The only problem I have with the Imperial Black mixer is that you really have to clean it good to get the flour and other mixings off of the mixer. It is rough in texture not smooth like most of the mixers, so takes a little more work to clean it, but other than that its great! I wish I got one years ago!

My dad got me this mixer as a Christmas present, something I had been wanting for a very long time. My mom has had her Kitchenaid mixer for 30 years. Now that I have it, I absolutely love it. I bake more cookies now. My only complaint is that it is very hard to pour ingredients into the mixer while it's running. The head always gets in the way, making it hard to turn a measuring cup enough to pour out all the ingredients (particularly the dry ingredients). Otherwise, the size is nice, it feels sturdy and reliable, and the standard attachments are plenty enough for everyday use. I love the handle on the side; it definitely comes in handy!

Love my kitchen aid! Just got voted best mixer by America's Test Kitchen agian!!! I actually have the 6Qt model and bought this one for my dad who is a retired chef! He loves it! Makes bread in it every weekend! Says it saves his hands!! My model handles a triple batch of c.chip cookies with no problem! Sometimes 4 batches when my kids have sleepovers!!! I also like the meat grinder attachment! I grind my own meat with no worries about whats in it unlike that mystery meat you get at the market! Easy clean up also, just throw everything in the dishwasher(except for the mixing blades, mine are not the plastic ones and when they are washed in the dishwasher spots form so I wash them by hand. I have only used this mixer once since I purchased it. It worked as claimed and was very easy to operate.
Since I do not have the counter space to leave the mixer on, I leave it in the shipping box when I am not using it. You should be aware, that this mixer is quite heavy and if you do not lift weights, you may want to get into shape.

An awesome addition to our kitchen. Everything promised was delivered. The plastic ingredient chute/splash guard works very well. The powerful motor doesn't slow a bit even in heavy dough. By following the adjustment instructions your mixing utensils will mix all of the ingredients thoroughly. One note, I would suggest hand washing the attachments, they lost their shine after a run in the dishwasher. A workhorse you'll be able to use for years.

I bought this for my wife for XMas. She loves it! It's heavy enough for bread mixing with no troubles. She said her other ones tended to move or bounce around. My daughter made her son's birthday cake so saved $50 there. Maybe it isn't so expensive.

My wife & I got this as a wedding gift 3 years ago. My mother had this same mixer for over 25 years. We have always thought KitchenAid was the best brand you can buy. -Wrong! maybe 20 years ago. We use this mixer at most a couple times a month for light duties. After 3 years, the PTO on the front used for the attachments quit working. I was shocked to see it only had a 1 year warranty! It is because they make them cheap now, and probably in china. Like most US appliance companies, they are riding on their reputation in the past as a quality product, but make cheap garbage these days. Be aware if you buy this unit, it is half the product it used to be.

I've wanted a mixmaster for years and finally had the space for it. This model is large enough to knead a two loaf batch of bread. The kneading function is great! No more mess and tired hands from hand kneading! It can also do a pretty large batch of cookies. When I asked my sister, who has the "professional" when she needs a mixer that large, she said, "when I want to make a million cookies." I guess if you bake a ton, you would want to move up a model, but for regular baking and breads, this model is fine. I've made two different types of yeast bread with wheat flour and bread flour and the machine has done a great job. Of course it also works well for non-yeast bread baking.

I am very pleased with my new stand mixer. It was shipped quickly and in great condition with no problems. I have used it to make homemade noodles for chicken and noodles and it performed great. I just made the best whipping cream with my new mixer. It was the perfect consistency. I always thought it was me, but now I know I wasn't using the right equipment. The hand-held mixers just can't do it, even my old (similar type, different brand)couldn't whip the cream so perfectly. I also made cinnamon rolls, and the dough turned out great, I used to have to add too much flour to get it to knead right, but this dough turned out really tender. I used the flour guard, but it didn't really seem to help that much, it doesn't sit tight on the bowl, and it was hard to pour into. The mixer does seem top-heavy, and I was afraid it would "travel", but it hasn't moved at all. Over-all I'm delighted with the mixer and wished I had thrown my old brand out sooner. The kids are having a great time making cookies!

I actually purchased this for a friend and he loved it! He has used it a couple of times and he says it was the best mixer he has ever used. After using lower grade mixers, they didn't stand up to the kitchen aid mixers as far as quality and performance. This is a beast of a mixer, it is very heavy and well made. I purchased the item on a monday and recieved it on either wednesday or thursday. And this was right before XMAS too! It was the Holiday Season so we didn't expect the Mixer to get here overnight, although it take longer than usual for it to arrive. However, when it did get here with some scratches on it, given its color and the fact the our kitchen is not the brightest, we didn't notice the blemishes until after my wife had been using it.
My personal thoughts were that the packaging that the unit was shipped in was slightly damaged thus creating the scratches, it was obvious the box did not appear to provide adequate protection during shipment of the unit.
So far the machine has worked fine, but the craftsmanship seems far substandard to the one my grandmother used to have. I hate to say it, but it does looks cheap in its appearance and the quality, but so far it has performed without a problem.

Best surprise gift I ever gave my wife. She had been asking for one for years but neither of us felt we could justify the price but a deal was found through Amazon and she was given it 5 days before Xmas and used it everyday until and many since.
It livens up the counter and looks good too. Kind of an easy bake oven for a big girl. She told all her friends and relatives and loves using it and my daughter anxiously helps (big sweet tooths these two). Canvassed 7 adults around me on these and all had them and loved them. I love this mixer. It can handle heavy cookie doughs and looks beautiful on my kitchen counter. The only fault I find with it is the speeds are to the back of the mixer not the front and it is a little inconvenient. If they were on on the front along with the tilt head button it would be more convenient. Amazon ships very fast. I would recommend this product along with Amazon.

I've had my old mixer for 20 years and it has seen plenty of use. Once it started wearing out I started looking for a new one. I fell in love with the red Kitchenaid. I read the reviews and they were all positive so I ordered one for myself for Christmas. I gave it a real test right off the bat with oatmeal raisin cookies. I've used it every week and am pleased to say I love it. I thought I'd miss scraping the sides of the bowl during mixing but everything in the bowl is mixed perfectly so scraping is not necessary. It's quiet and quick. Next week I'm going to try some bread dough. And, it looks so fabulous that I'm thinking about repainting my kitchen to compliment my new mixer! I highly recommend it and look forward to spending many years cooking with my new Kitchenaid. Plus, it matches my little red Kitchenaid food chopper.

The Kitchenaid Artisan Mixer is a necessity for anyone who loves to bake, or do just about anything in the kitchen. We ordered this Artisan to replace an older refurbished Kitchenaid, and I've really enjoyed the upgrade. It fits nicely under our overhead counters (our other one was too tall), and we enjoy many attachments, including the pasta maker and the ice cream maker. I unpacked it today. I found that the accessories were designed by people who understood that they would have to be cleaned after use! The drive shaft to which the food grinder and other accessories are attached is accessible and is keyed so that you know when the unit is properly connected. The food grinder, even though partly made of plastic, is metal in the parts that transfer power. The unit is very easy to clean, assemble and to attach to the Artisan. There is ample power to perform the required task with speed and without worry that something will break. After grinding 2 lbs of lean pork and some bacon, to add a little fat and flavor, the unit was very easy to disassemble and to clean.
If all my small appliances worked as well and were so easily cleaned some of them would see a lot more use.

I bought this for myself last Christmas, and, as all of the other reviews have already stated, it is one of the most well crafted, reliable (beautiful!) and useful appliances a baker will ever have.
That said, when considering whether or not to purchase it, I would really think about how much of a baker you are. If you tend to make cookies once a year using a mix, I wouldn't bother.
If, on the other hand, you like to bake often, and sometimes knead dough, whip cream, make merengues, etc. Then this is exactly what you're looking for. I had been getting by with a hand mixer for twenty years, and I'd been doing just fine, but boy do the eggs fluff up better and the sugar and butter cream together when you've got a Kitchen Aid on your counter. You don't have to stand there and hold the mixer for one thing, which frees your hands up for measuring, putting away ingredients, etc. It's great.
One thing I would also consider, is how much and how often you make bread. If you tend to make many loaves rather often, the Professional line (rather than the Artisan line here) would be a better choice. Really though, the majority of home bakers don't need that extra power, and they certainly don't need to spend the extra money.
Basically, if you like to bake a variety of things, and you aren't (yet) a professional, this is the best tool for the job.

If you are in the market for a kitchen mixer, KitchenAid is the way to go. Other mixers I have used don't compare to its stability, mix speed ranges, and mixing thoroughness. The attachments can be installed in a snap and are very easy to clean. The breadth of colors that are available can match any kitchen decor and it doesn't take up much counter space. No regret or disappointments here...

I keep my mixer on the counter top in a handy place because I use it for most all my mixing needs. I hope to order the additional attachments to make all my mixing, jucing and chopping needs easier. The bowl can be a bit tricky to remove once you are done mixing. Just remember to push down on the bowl as you twist to remove it. The mixer does strain a little when mixing heavy bread dough. However, we did not buy it to mix bread dough. If you are interested in mixing a lot of doughs, KitchenAid does make a heavier duty model for this type of job. It does cost a lot more however. If you are interest in a GREAT everyday mixer you can't go wrong with this one!!

During making large batches around the holidays, the work bowl could be a little larger for double recipes.
I also had motor stall while make very heavy whole wheat pasta dough.
This makes me wonder if I would have been happier with the professional model.
For now the Artisan definetly makes life easier and is of very good quality. I have no doubt this mixer will last as long as I want to keep it.

To say that i am pleased with my kitchenaid artisan is an understatement!! I have had it for 3 months now, and i wonder how i baked without it!! It has plenty of power, it is easy to use, is very secure on your counter and has a new type of splash guard that is wonderful. With all the color options, you can find one that will look beautiful on your counter. This machine comes with a deep 5qt bowl that locks into its base for secure mixing, so you never have to worry that the bowl will "spin away" while you move away from the machine. It can handle the lightest whipped cream or the heaviest bread dough with ease. There are only two drawbacks to this machine, and they are minor. One, it only comes with one bowl, and secondly, you have to be careful not to overbeat some batters. This machine is strong. If you like to bake, and you buy anything but a kitchenaid, you will probably be disappointed!

The only reason I didn't give this product 5 stars is because when it arrived, the metal ring that surrounds the mixing element was hanging down around the beater. I was able to reattach it and it hasn't come off again, but it made me nervous that it arrived that way. I am using the mixer more often than I thought, for not just cookies, but for dips and sausage balls (it is so much easier than using your hands!).

I highly recommend this mixer! I have wanted one of these beautiful KitchenAid mixers for so long, and this year I finally asked everyone in my family to pool their gift money and buy it for me for Christmas. I have been using it non-stop since I received it, and the quality is everything everyone says and more. The metal bowl and attachments are so easy to clean, and the machine is incredibly powerful.
Since there are already so many reviews of the product, I'll just add a word about the colors: My husband insisted that we go look at them in the department stores before ordering from Amazon, and I'm so glad that we did because in person the colors don't always look the way you would think, based on photos from Amazon or the KitchenAid website. I, for example, was originally set on the Surf Green color, but when I saw it in person, it was much darker than I'd expected. By the same token, the Blue was lighter than I'd expected, and the Tangerine was much more appealing that I would have thought. I ultimately ordered this mixer in Ice, and I am so happy with my choice! The color is so cheerful and just bright enough without taking over the kitchen. Anyway, the moral of the story is, if you can go look at them in person before buying, I'd really recommend it.
