A friend bought this item for me and I was a bit skeptical at all the rave reviews. I received it yesterday, read the accompanying pamphlet, and hurried down to the nearby strawberry field to get a half crate of fresh strawberries. I followed the extremely simple directions for the yeast batter (grumbling all the while, I might add, because I couldnt see why a plain Bisquik-type waffle mix wouldn't be just as good.) Holy cow, am I glad I made their recipe! I like my waffles with a slight crunch on the outside and fluffy on the inside, so I set the control to 5 instead of 4 as recommended. The waffle was ready so quickly that I was sure it wouldn't be as I like them. Well, it was perfect and the yeast batter made the lightest fluffiest waffle and the number 5 setting gave me my slight crunch on the outside. The only thing I didnt like was the little measuring cup. I used my round tubular measuring thingy, you know the one with a tube inside a tube and you just fill it and push the contents out. No scraping the sides to make sure you get the full amount you have measured. The waffles were great, there was virtually NO cleanup of the machine. Luckily my daughter and her friends had descended on the household so I used up all the batter. The recipe makes A LOT of waffles so I will half it next time. I can't say enough good things about the Waring waffle Pro

In a family of 11, you'd go broke buying breakfast cereal. So, we've gone through a string of inexpensive waffle irons. When my oldest son went to college, he came back raving about the waffle iron he used in the cafeteria there, then found this one and said it looked just like the one at school. I bought it with some reservations. IT'S GREAT! It heats up in about 2 minutes, then cooks each waffle in about 2 minutes or less. It has a variable darkness knob, which is a fine feature. Since it only comes with recipes for yeast raised waffles, here's one I developed which is great:

5 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
4-1/2 cups flour
2 tsp salt
4-1/2 tsp baking powder
3 cups milk
3/4 cup vegetable oil

Beat until there are no more lumps. It will keep in the refrigerator for 4 to 5 days (but it rarely lasts 2 in this house). 2/3 cup of batter makes one perfect waffle in this waffle iron.

I bought this waffle maker in June 05, and ordered a new one today June 07. The waffles are superb, however my unit shorted out and fried the circuit board. It has never been in water, dropped or used in any manner that would cause it to fail. My local Waring authorized service center informed me that Waring does not and will not sell repair parts. I would have to send the broken one in and they would send me a rebuilt one for $70 + shipping. So I will buy a new one for $79.95 with free shipping instead. A Pro quality appliance should last much longer than 2 years in normal household use (3-4 times a month for 4 people). I am buying another one because the waffles are so good, and I am betting that my first waffle maker was just a lemon.

I got this as a gift about 2 years ago and everyone in my family loves it. And it still looks great thanks to the stainless steel construction. As for recipes the easiest is what is printed on the back of most pancake mixes as they usually display both recipes for pancakes and waffles. In our case, we substitute applesauce in place of oil (works for cakes too). For something different we mash in a banana or chocolate chips or use a recipe from one of the many waffle recipe books that are available. We still haven't tried a yeast-based recipe though since I can't imagine it's any better than what we're getting now.

Don't even think about using another waffle maker. This maker is by far the best of the best. Its basically an "industrial grade" waffle maker, at a consumer price. I store it on top of my fridge when not in use.. its not something that would sit nicely on a counter-top, unless you have a TON of counter space. It looks good, and works even better. I've found that one waffle is enough for me in the morning, but some people prefer two. We've taken to having waffles for dinner in the rare event we can't bring ourselves to get to the grocery store after work... its a great tasty meal. Buy this waffle maker, I guarantee you wont be disappointed.

Review: The best waffle maker out there!
by: R. Moorthy on date: June 11, 2007

->Lowest Price Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

SUMMARY
The Waring WMK300 Professional Belgian Waffle Maker turns out perfectly browned, light, fluffy waffles every time, even with low carb and multi-grain batter. Cleanup is also very easy - fewer crevices means that you don't spend hours with a toothpick cleaning it out, and the catch tray underneath catches excess oil, spray, etc. Also, because you "turn the waffle over" after pouring in the batter, it is more evenly distributed in the tray and seems to help with cooking.

ABOUT THE PRODUCT
The Waring is a little different than the other products out there - it has what appears to be a slightly smaller cooking area that you fill with batter and then "turn over" the waffle for it to cook. There is a power light on the front, as well as a "ready" light on the front when it is ready for you to add batter, and also for when the waffle is done. A catch tray underneath catches excess batter and "coating" oil for the plates. You simply turn the iron on, wait till the "ready" light comes on, spray cooking spray (such as Pam) on each side of the waffle iron, add the batter, "turn over" the waffle, and wait till the alarm sounds (and "ready" light comes back on). It has an adjustable "browning" setting that you can raise or lower (but go in small steps!).

THE COMPETITION
We have tried the best rated versions of the Black and Decker, VillaWare, and Krups waffle makers. All three had sticking issues and turned out soggy waffles. The B&D and Krups were also particularly unreliable with low carb waffle mix and multi-grain waffle mix - I would end up with burnt crumbs that took a lot of time to clean out. I also had no luck with very thick or thin batter with any of them, if people wanted more substantial waffles or very light and airy ones - it would always stick or turn out miss-happen pieces. The difference is so significant vs. the other makers we have tried that I find I can feed by 2 year old daughter multigrain waffles and get away with it. On the Krups, she was lukewarm about the regular waffles and we had no shot with the multigrain (read: healthier). Call that subjective, but its worth a million dollars to me.

The only complaint I have is that mine came without the measuring cup so sometimes I put too much mix in the waffle iron and then it drips out but there is a tray underneath so I don't have to clean up a mess. Amazon offer to replace mine or give me 15% off. I wish I had opted to send it back so I would know how much to put in it. That is my fault not Amazon's but it was Christmas time and I could not face the post office again. I definitely recommend the product but make sure you have the measuring cup so your waffles are neither too small or too big.

We used "regular" waffle makers for decades, and finally decided to get a Belgian waffle maker. We find the Waring model easy to use once we learned how WE were going to use it. We lightly pre-oil the iron with vegetable oil before every use. Since we like our waffles medium-dark, we take them out about 3 minutes after the timer goes off. We use a waffle recipe from the old Joy of Cooking, and beat the egg whites before folding them into the batter. We're very satisfied with this waffle maker.

This is the 4th waffle maker I bought trying to find one that makes a great waffle & cooks them fast. This is by far the best one available !!! The waffles come out PERFECT everytime. The beeper sound when the waffles are done can be heard while you're sitting at the table so you don't have to constantly watch the unit. Do not buy any other brand. This is the best. A very quick recipe for you people that I have combined the best parts from my numerous waffle makers. Try this & you will not be disappointed. (1) 4 eggs yolks & whites seperated in 2 bowls. (2) A little cream of tartar sprinkled in whites to keep them from dropping. (3)A little sugar, melted stick of butter & pure vanilla into egg yolks & mix together. (4) 1 1/2 cups of flour, 1 1/2 cups milk, 3 tsp baking powder added to egg yolk bowl & mixed together. Batter should be on the thicker side. (5) Whip up egg whites really good. Blend half of them into batter pretty well. Then blend the rest in & leave batter a little lumpy. This recipe keeps the batter rising & fluffy to the very last waffle (which does not happen with all the recipes I have tried). YOU WIL LOVE THESE. Real vanilla is the key !!! ENJOY

It seems we have received two lemons in a row. We will give this one a second chance to redeem itself before notifying Amazon.com again. This unit does make very good waffles. My wife and I purchased 4 of them and gave them out as gifts to our children. We own our unit for about 2 years and have used it maybe 10 times. We attempted to use it recently but the unit would not get hot, and we could not make waffles. I have tried several times to get it going again but it does not get hot.
I tried to find a service center and was told that it would probably cost $98 for just walking in the door and an additional $93 per hour to look and fix.
Had it not been for this problem I would have rated this a 5 star item. I don't think this unit should have become unusable within such a short period of time and use.

I have now used my Waring Pro Belgian Waffle Maker every weekend I have purchased it. I have yet to find any problems with it. The size is kind of large in length if you had a very small kitchen may be a concern to you, but if you have the space, get it. I love the catch plate underneath, it catches all of the batter run-off onto it for easier washing of the unit. Follow the products tips on using 4 on the heat dial if you want nice golden waffles, it works every time. I am also impressed as to how long it takes the waffle iron to cool off. That means good heavy cast iron in it, and that is what you want to look for in a good waffle iron. My husband went to Florida for 2 weeks and there was a similar more industrial style waffle maker there, he got addicted to waffles and so began our search. This was the closest match to what he used at the hotel. If you are curious, the hotel also was using a waffle mix from a company on-line called Carbon's Golden Malted. A little pricey for mixes, but we think the waffles taste great. We are sick of bisquick We have been having fun using the waffle maker every weekend ever since, about 5 times now and I have yet to have a waffle stick in any fashion. The nephew's loved making their own waffles too. The fun of flipping the machine over and waiting for the beep is entertaining to them. Good luck on your search for a product you will like.

I bought several waffle makers before finally settling on this one from Waring. If you read through the other ratings, you'll get a sense of the pros and cons of this product. For me, what is important is evenly cooked waffles, audible alerts, easy clean-up, and quality construction. This machine hits the mark on all those counts. Some of the cons that you also see in the other ratings are: the non-stick surface is not great (need to spray with oil before each waffle) and the machine itself is bulky. If you can live with those issues, which I can, then you're going to have a terrific waffle maker. Enjoy!

Overall, this product is a great and consistent waffle maker. We found some recipes are simple, clear and easy to follow, different from the "included" recipes that most requried yeast and additional prep time. The end result is my kids making waffles for breakfast every Saturday and Sunday morning.
Some features that allow this to be a great product. 1) An audible alarm that lets everyone know the waffle is done, without having to open/close the lid to check. 2) The non-stick surface is exactly that, a non-stick surface!! 3) Easy clean up, nothing sticks, nothing to scrub. 4) Easy to follow recipes from most cookbooks, that don't call for weird or un-common items. 5) Great, consistent waffles that the cook is proud to serve to a hungry family!

A great product, would recommend this to all.

We needed to replace a 25-year-old wafflemaker. I sorted the Amazon waffle irons by "Avg customer review" and the Waring Pro went to the top. Per the comments of another reviewer, I picked it up at my local warehouse club for $50 (thanks for the tip!)

This appliance hits the need dead-on. Very easy to use and very consistent waffles. The timer is a high-value feature... pour in the batter, flip the pan, and ignore it until the timer tells you to come back. Flip the pan back over and lift the lid, pop the waffle out, and do it again. Puts out a waffle every couple minutes, substantially faster than the 5-6 minutes our old waffle maker required. No learning curve; worked great the first time, following the simple directions.

Clean up is easy. Any excess batter drips into the stainless tray beneath the pan and is easily washed off. Any batter on the side of the pan falls off with a tap once the pan has cooled.

Smart design. Store-bought waffle mix works fine. Very pleased with purchase. The kids love waffles and this waffle iron makes it a no-hassle breakfast.

This waffle maker is an outstanding value! It's so attractive and well-made that I'm keeping it on permanent display on my countertop.
Most importantly, it works perfectly. This is the first waffle maker I've owned that requires no guesswork! Having the audible beep to let you know the waffle is done is SO helpful to me because I'm usually doing 100 other things in the kitchen at the same time. I set the temperature control to #4 as suggested, and the waffles were perfectly done when the alarm went off. No peaking and guessing like other makers I've owned.
I had been toying with the idea of buying the Kitchenaid, but it seemed so extravagent. Kudos to Waring for offering a well-designed, quality product with a reasonable price tag!!

We have been eating waffles since Christmas Eve! They are superb! To heat a waffle up that comes right out of the fridge, I just put it back on the waffle iron and it comes out crisp on the outside and soft on the inside, as if I just cooked it. They tend to be soggy if it is reheated in the microwave. I read all of the reviews and did my homework on Belgian Waffle machines. I was debating between the kitchen-aid (that cooks 2 at a time) and this one. Then, my husband pointed out that I could buy 2 or 3 of these ones for the price of the Kitchen-aid waffle machine. It does have a pretty steep price. I noticed that these sell for 49.95 at Sam's Club. These do make great waffles in about 2 ½ minutes. I would still prefer a waffle iron that cooks 2 at a time, but for a single waffle iron this one is a dandy!

I'm a major waffle-lover, and I'm really disappointed with this machine. I have yet to find a waffle recipe that cooks correctly in this iron. I've tried about ten recipes from various sources including my two tried-and-true recipies that I have used weekly in other irons. No matter how much I fiddle with the temperature, the inside of the waffle is always undercooked when the outside is done. I can leave the waffle in the iron for an extra five minutes (which is ridiculous) and the inside cooks, but then the outside is crumbly and nasty. I've never had trouble with something as simple as a waffle iron before! Has anyone else ran across this problem? I haven't tried using a mix- yuck. Is that predominantly what other reviewers are using?

While I am happy with the item, I did not realize how much work it took to make Belgian Waffles. Convenience is always a key and this is definitely not that. I did not realize that Belgian waffles had to be made with yeast. After using the yeast, there was no warning of the batter growing over time. It actually doubled in size and made a huge mess in my fridge...not a fun way to spend Christmas morning. I wish the recipe manual that came with the item gave alternate, non-yeast, recipes. It also would have been nice to have some sort of warning of the growing batter.

Please note that the pancake mix box will also have a waffle recipe that requires extra oil. Follow the waffle recipe exactly as it is written. The waffle maker makes outstanding waffles. I use a nonstick spray before I pour in the waffle mix. It never sticks and the results are wonderful. This has been such a treat for my family! I plan to give several of these for gifts in the next year. After four waffle makers I have finally found one that works! I highly recommend this appliance!

Purchased this for a Christmas present, and I have been happily reaping the benefits ever since! This waffle maker is easy to use and makes great waffles (we followed the advice of other reviewers and bypassed the included recipe-- we are using the "The Pancake Handbook: Specialties from Bette's Oceanview Diner" purchased on Amazon. It has several excellent waffle recipes).

Pros:
Easy to use
Simple directions
Included cup makes measuring poured mix accurately a snap (it doesn't have to bubble out the sides and make a mess)
Removable/washable drip plate below the iron makes for a clean use
Nice large dial makes adjusting the brown/crispness of the waffle easy and precise
Solid construction, no apparent small joints or parts to break
Feels like a real restaurant waffle maker
Pretty fun to use- the flip/swivel design works well
Nice deep grid design in the waffles-- (into which a variety of toppings can nestle good and deep)

Cons:
Should include a better waffle recipe guide inside (how much could this cost Waring?)
Pricey
Given the price, would appreciate it if Waring could include a cover (even a plastic one) for storage (to keep dust/grease out)

Summary:
A great item for the kitchen! Boyfriend (gift recipient) and I both have been looking forward to our weekend breakfasts since this entered our kitchen.

Plus, it has already paid for itself considering the local breakfast prices of $7 (or more) a waffle when we go out.

This is a tremendous product. It arrived in plenty of time for Christmas so we had to wrap it to keep from using it until Christmas. It was the first package opened. We whipped up some batter, sprayed the waffle iron with Pam and started cooking. The first to the last waffle turned out perfectly. It's so handsome that it stays on the kitchen counter, ready for action whenever the hungries hit. Cleanup is virtually non-existant and if you overfill it the removable tray catches the spill and you just rinse it clean. It's an amazing appliance and well worth the money. It should last a lifetime. I highly recommend it. Kids will love it too!

I've tried similar waffle makers at hotels and liked the output. First try at home using a boxed waffle mix was not great. But then tried the yeast receipe that came with the maker, and these turned out great. Because yeast is used, the mix has to stand for about an hour before use. The Waffles cook quickly on a 4 setting (about 1 1/2 min each) and are delicious. One package of yeast in a full receipe yields 9 Waffles. I froze the extras, and they were also good microwave warmed over the next few days. Recommended.

...one day when I was putting it away i accidentally bumped the handle and the top plate broke off right where it connects to the handle. I was stunned! I finally got a phone number for Waring and called to see if I could purchase a new top plate, which didn't seem like such an unreasonable request as it's only held on by four screws. Or, failing that, I asked if it could be repaired. Admittedly, it was out of warranty, but the woman who answered the phone rather snottily told me I couldn't buy a new top plate, and the waffle maker couldn't be repaired. This seems ridiculous for an item that I paid over $100 for.

I have another Belgian waffle maker that I got from Chef's Choice that cost about half of what this one cost, and it's both much older and it still works.

I really like the "flip" style waffle maker as I feel it makes fluffier, more authentic belgian waffles. Unfortunately, mine broke.

Review: Great gadget -- better recipe
by: Jeri on date: December 28, 2006

->Compare Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

I bought this gadget for my husband for Christmas, and it's great. The waffles are heavenly, and the machine makes it so easy. I make the batter, but he runs the machine -- which is kewl, considering there's no actual open flame involved.

All the recipes that come in the booklet are kind of complicated and mostly involve yeast batters, which take time. I made the overnight one, which tasted good; but I don't normally want to be beating egg whites or making yeast batter on a regular basis just for breakfast, even on Saturday.

So we checked our ancient authority, the 1961 edition of Betty Crocker, and we adapted one of theirs to the following recipe, which works very well and tastes delicious. I'm including it here for readers' convenience and hope it works for you, too.

"Richer Waffles"
Makes 5

1-3/4 cups flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
3 eggs
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1-1/2 cups buttermilk

Mix flour, baking powder, salt and soda until well blended. Using mixer, add in softened butter until thoroughly distributed. Add eggs and vanilla and mix well. Carefully add buttermilk and mix until batter is well blended.

Proceed as usual. If you don't have buttermilk on hand, the recipe says you can make sour milk by adding a tablespoon of vinegar to it and letting it stand a few minutes.

Review: Great Waffles - not professional
by: A. Bacon on date: December 10, 2006

->Comparison Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

I need to agree with many of the previous posters that this waffle maker is the best I have owned. The waffles are perfect every time. That being said, I need to point out a very important defect in the product.

I bought this waffle baker about 1 1/2 years ago, and except for a few weeks when I was on vacation, I have made waffles every week since then. I especially found it valuable since one of my children does not eat gluten or casein and this waffle maker makes even wheat and dairy free waffles beautifully. This morning when I went to put my first waffle in, the machine literally fell apart. The plastic housing mechanism for the griddles melted and the screws that hold it together fell out. I feel that for the money I spent on this product, it should be a little better built. This defect is the EXACT thing that happened to the previous waffle maker I owned - made by Braun - for about 1/3 the price. In fact, It probably made about the same # of batches of waffles as the Waring maker.

My advice - if you don't make waffles very often, this is a pretty big maker to have in your kitchen unless you have a lot of space. If you make waffles often, get a maker that is truly professional. If you only make waffles occasionally and want to "look" good for parties, etc this just might be the waffle maker for you. Personally, I am going to start shopping for something more heavy duty that will last more than 1 1 1/2 years.

Purchased this waffle maker about 2 months ago for my office. We've got a kitchen and I figured that this would be a change of pace from bagels and donuts. This waffle maker has been a huuuuge hit. Extremely easy to use. Makes a perfect waffle everytime. Just pour in the pre-made batter, close the lid and flip... wait for the ding... flip back open and put that fresh waffle right on the plate. Can't get any easier!! I actually purchased a second one for the office as well. I've got 30 people here and I thought it would be great to make 2 at a time since everyone devours them so quickly. Did I mention I'm the boss at the office. Everyone loves the fact that they know I can't cook but that I'm an expert waffle maker. It's a lot of fun and a nice morale booster.
I recently purchased this waffle maker for my house as well. I now make waffles for the wife and kids just about every Sunday morning. It's extremely easy to clean as well... literally no cleaning... the trick is to spray Pam (or similar product) on the grates in between each time you make a waffle.
I have never had a single problem with this waffle make either... and I can tell you I've made quite a few waffles with this Waring Pro in the past few months. It definitely is Commercial grade.

This is a very nice waffle maker. It performs well and is heavy duty. My only reservation is to add that it won't replace your regular waffle maker, as I thought it would. Although I love the belgium waffles, they are much thicker and just a generally different creature than one your "traditional" waffle machine will make. I agree with the reviewer who commented that many of the recipes are involved or require overnight preparation...however, we have found recipes since then that are faster and delicious (just not in the enclosed booklet). The overnight yeast waffle recipe in that book is wonderful--very light and a little eggy. My children don't care for this style of waffle as much, though they are getting used to them. My husband is a waffle afficianado and loves it.

This is in my opinion the best waffle iron you can purchase for home use. There might be a better $600 waffle iron out there, but this is far and away and excellent product. Although I do feel that it's a little flimsy to be called a "professional" product, and seeing as how I've worked in the food industry my whole life, I feel validated in saying that. However, I have used it for a while now, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. From soft to crisp waffles in a short amount of time, any easy to use and clean. My ony complaint is that it's rather large for the size of my kitchen. Excellent waffles! Thick and golden, like in the user submitted photos. I've never had waffles so good, not even in a restaurant. The true Belgian waffle recipes do take a bit of patience and know-how, but they're worth the effort. I read some complaints about the timing mechanism, but I find it to be spot on for the most part. Its worth the money.

This waffle iron works like a charm. I hesitated for a long time before finally breaking down and getting one, and I'm glad I finally did. Waffles come out perfect every time. Nonstick coating works very nicely, and waffles do not stick. If you overfill and some batter dribbles out, it wipes up easily and a convenient drip tray is provided that can go into the dishwasher if you really make a mess. The only thing is that it's a bit of a counter hog, just due to the configuration of the thing, but that's a pretty minor complaint. Overall, I'm thrilled with my new waffle iron and look forward to hears of yummy waffles.

We make waffles about one a month since purchasing the Waring Pro Belgian Waffle maker and it works extremely well. We stayed at several hotels this past year and some of them had the self-serve commercial version of this Belgian waffle maker. They also used Carbon's Golden Malted waffle mix, which we really like. The mix is available at Williams-Sonoma stores. The waffle maker is very simple to use, makes great waffles, and the unit is easy to clean.

I bought this item for my husband who had used a similar one while on holiday. He doesn't like the kitchen and isn't very good with gadgets but found this one so simple that he wanted his own. He now makes us breakfast which is a first in this house. It is so easy to use and produces perfect waffles every time. Ours came with a measuring cup so you use the correct amount of batter to avoid over-spillage. It is totally hassle free with hardly any clean up. You are definately getting your money's worth with this item. A good buy.

As an update - I have had this product for 5 months now and it has suddenly stopped heating up. I have contacted the company because it is under warranty and they have informed me that if I wish to get a replacement, I must mail the VERY heavy waffle maker to them in CT via either UPS ot insured mail. I am in Hawaii so it would cost me more than the product's worth to mail it to them in this fashion. I still love the product as per my review and wish that it still worked but I felt that I had to warn people that it may do this to them also.

Our family always celebrates special events by going out to brunch at one of the local hotels. Everyone has their own favorite foods, but no one misses the waffles.
Imagine fresh, fluffy waffles served to you hot off the grill, surrounded by a variety of fruit and toppings. They are just waiting for you to create your own masterpiece. Nothing could be better! Or could it?

Now, with the Waring Pro Belgian Waffle Maker, you can recreate that experience right in your own kitchen at any time and at much less cost. The Waring Pro looks and cooks just like the professional models used in restaurants and hotels. Its innovative design makes it perfect to display on your kitchen counter and its clean lines and solid stainless steel housing make you know it means business.
But, it's not just the appearance which sets the Waring Pro apart. The patented flip feature allows you to make and bake perfect waffles every time. And, The Waring's grill releases your fresh waffles with just a touch, no more stuck waffles.
The WaringPro will be a welcome addition to your kitchen because it is so easy to use. The instructions are fully detailed and easy to read. The grill lights up when you turn it on and another light indicates when it has reached the right temperature to add the batter. There is no guesswork involved and no more over or undercooked waffles. The enclosed batter scoop measures the correct amount of batter every time, so there are no more overflows from too much batter or unsightly holes in your waffles due to not enough batter.
As the waffle cooks, it is monitored by the Waring temperature gauges, and when the waffle is cooked on one side, a light indicates that it is time to flip the grill to cook the other side. There is never a doubt as to when to flip the waffle. No peeking to check, no lifting up corners to see if it is ready. The ready light tells you when the waffle is ready. And, serving the waffle is just as easy. When the ready light goes on, simply lift the lid and the waffle comes out perfectly every time.
As you serve yet another perfect, steaming waffle, your friends and family won't miss the hotel waffle bar at all.

->Compare Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

Ok...the only thing domestic about me is that I live in a house. Cooking is a necessary evil. This waffle maker is the best! We love staying at hotels w/breakfast bars just so we can use the waffle makers! Two things I have noticed about this appliance...I have 3 kids and a husband that all love the waffles, so when we use it I am making a lot of waffles. If it starts to appear the waffles are getting more crisp, dial down the heat setting one less than what you are currently set on. We start out with a "4" setting. I am in the habit of spritzing the grids EVERY time we bake a waffle. If you miss between, the waffles don't stick, but it is apparent they don't slip right out as easy. I have found that a butter flavored cooking spray gives the waffle more of a "restaurant" taste. We use the box batters...there is no way in hell I would take the time to make the book mix...LOL. I've used more expensive mixes to store brand mixes ($1.99/box) and they all bake up great.

My mom has the same unit and she pretty much echos everything I have said. They will make extras and freeze them. We never have extras at our house--LOL!

I have decided to keep my waffler out on the counter, it looks very sleek next to my beautiful staninless Kitchenaid mixer, stainless rice cooker and stainless coffee maker. And, I admit it, I throw all the mix into the mixer and let the mixer do the job for me.

Clean up is a snap and we have enjoyed having this appliance. BE SURE TO HAND WASH THE BATTER CUP if you don't want the writing to come off. I have scratched mine with an ice pick to show the proper level. Also, I have a small spatula on hand I use to spread the thicker mixes around (quickly) if need be. I also hand wash the tray and just let air dry and wipe up the unit after each use.

I just can't justify taking the entire family out to breakfast for $30-40 when we can make all the goodies at home. We are also planning a suprise waffle bake for my son's teacher at school for his birthday with my waffler. I will just pre-mix a ton of batter.

We have a family friend who we owe a belated wedding gift to and this is what we are going to get them. I know they will enjoy it too.

Happy cooking!

it has a few problems. I expected this waffle iron to be more durable, especially as its made of stainless.

It is a little too flimsy to be called 'professional'. We've had one a month and already the lid has broken and we had to exchange it. Also, I find the built in timer to be completely useless and inaccurate.

This iron is good for occasional use only. I think they should be able to do better for $79.

Costco now sells the exact same unit with a black base for $59.

I purchased this item on 8/25/06 from amazon.com. They had the best price, plus free shipping. This waffle maker works great. You do have to use cooking spray with each waffle and depending what you use for mix, will determine if you will have a spill. It makes a seven inch waffle, which nomally 0ne is enough. I'm a big breakfast eater, so I usually have two. The measuring cup is pretty accurate for most mixes. If you use the bisquick recipe, you'll have to use less batter to prevent run overs. The only problem I've found so far is that, the measuring mark on the measuring cup, wears off easily. I myself took a razor knife and scored a line on the outside of the cup, then filled it in with a little bit of permanent magic marker. All the original markings are gone, but the etched line shows up well. (Better then the original). I cook the waffles on the highest temperature, which makes them medium crispy. You'll need a rubber spatula and a plastic fork near by, to spread the batter and to remove the waffle. You'll average around four waffles from a box recipe.
This is the best waffle maker I have ever owned, and if you use cooking spray, you'll never have a STICKY WAFFLE!!!

I was worried about size and heft but this is a very light machine despite its metallic looks. I just hope sturdiness wasn't sacrificed in order to make this affordable. Well, this is my true indulgence purchase. I didn't splurge on a santoku or an electric carving knife, but I felt a strong urge to buy this and have that luxury of making waffles at home. How decadent to have a designated machine for this treat! It was a breeze. I was really worried I would have terrible results. However, nothing burned and the waffle just peeled right off in one big piece. I like the setting option to make darker crispier waffles and will be experimenting with savoury brown rice flour and egg white waffles with scallions soon. Now that I own one, I understand why owners use it so frequently. On the road to pudgier are we.

I have been wanting a waffle maker for years. I live alone and could never justify buying one. I've been thinking about it again and decided I had to have one, and decided on the Waring model. I was set to order it from Amazon but ended up getting it at a big national electronics chain for more than 20 dollars less.

I've used it only once so far, and made 4 waffles from a quick recipe I found online. They came out perfectly, and I froze 3 of them. I only have one left in my freezer, so I will be making more waffles soon. The frozen waffles are fine when reheated/toasted in the toaster oven.

I have very limited storage space/counter space in my kitchen and the only negative thing I can say about this appliance is that it's rather large. I'll gladly give up precious storage space for it, though, and am looking forward to making all kinds of waffles. Now if I could only find recipes that make just ONE waffle, I'd really be happy.

I do not enjoy cooking, am not a morning person, and am counting carbs. However after seeing the flip-type waffle maker in a hotel breakfast bar, I had to have one, if only because it was so much FUN and the waffles were perfect time after time. After seeing all the five-star reviews, I decided on the Waring Pro and found it at a local warehouse club yesterday for an amazing price. This morning I had made a batch of homemade perfect, Belgian waffles within 30 minutes! Each waffle took about 3 minutes to bake. I used a cinnamon waffle recipe with egg whites whipped separately, buttermilk (I used nonfat milk with a little vinegar), and both baking powder and baking soda. Maybe someday I will try one of the yeast recipes that come with the unit, but I doubt it. I was so happy with the results of the simpler recipe, without all that trouble! My husband could not believe that I had made them! Cleanup of the waffle maker itself took all of 30 seconds at most after it had cooled. Storage for the very short cord is right under the appliance. It was easy to put the unit right back into the box and I am taking it on vacation next week. This would make a great wedding gift for a new cook.

Review: Waring Pro Costs a Little More, but Its Worth Every Penny
by: Bryan Carey on date: July 14, 2006

->Buy Now Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

My culinary skills are quite limited so I am always happy when I find a new appliance that makes cooking easy. Waffles, pancakes, eggs, and other foods are not necessarily difficult to make but they take more time than I am willing to give up as I begin my day. With the Waring Professional Belgian Style Waffle Maker, I can make waffles with little or no effort. This has greatly increased my number of hot breakfasts since this device is so easy to use and so easy to clean.

The most desirable quality of this device is the ease of use and this factor alone makes it worth the purchase. When I first opened the box and looked at this waffle maker, I still had my doubts about its simplicity. But a few uses showed just how simple it was. Everything is automated for the consumer, removing all of the guesswork from the process of waffle making. First, you flick the switch. Then, you wait for the green light to tell you that the waffle iron is preheated. Then, you pour the batter, close the lid, and turn the handle. When the waffle is ready, the device beeps. That's all there is to it. Even the measuring cup that Waring includes is already pre- marked with a "fill line". There are no ounce markings. No, that would require too much thinking. Instead, Waring marks a line on the cup that says "fill line". By pouring the batter into this cup and reaching this line, you can be assured that the batter will be just the right amount to make one waffle.

With the heat settings, there are six different knob positions and they control how quickly the beeper sounds off and how soft or crisp your waffle will be. Waring recommends using the "4" setting. This is usually the one I use but I have been known to lower this setting to "3" for a softer waffle. Again, by following the manufacturer's recommendation, one can get a very good waffle without any cognitive input. Waring takes care of all this for you, helping to create a tasty waffle with minimal effort.

The next great thing about the Waring Professional Belgian Style Waffle Maker is the ease of cleaning. With the non- stick cooking surface, there is almost no cleanup at all. Any waffle bits or batter left behind are easily removed. All you need is a damp cloth to glide over the indentions on the waffle iron and the bits of waffle fall right off. And you don't need to worry about any mess from drips because the square drip tray catches these errors. All you do is transfer the tray to the kitchen sink for a quick rub down. In a matter of seconds, the tray is clean. The reason the drips remove so easily is because the tray remains cool during the cooking process and the batter (if any happens to drip) is usually also cool or slightly warm. It isn't hot and cannot get burned onto the surface. You don't need a scouring pad or steel wool pad to clean. A wet cloth is all it takes.

Yet another good reason to purchase this waffle maker is the waffles themselves. The pockets in these waffles are large and deep and the waffles themselves measure about seven inches across. This is a nice size. They fit right on your plate and one of them makes for a nice morning meal. And with those large pockets, they hold syrup and other toppings with ease.

Is there anything bad about the Waring Professional Belgian Waffle Maker? I can think of only one thing: It makes only one waffle at a time. There is nothing else bad to say about this device. You know a product is very good when the worst thing I can say about it is that it doesn't cook twice as great a quantity as it does. It really is that good!

Cooking breakfast is still an infrequent occurrence in my household but hot breakfast food is becoming a more and more common part of my mornings thanks to the Waring Professional Belgian Style Waffle Maker. It's one of the few small appliances that occupy a permanent spot on my kitchen counter and it's one of the best presents I have received in a long time. Great waffles made with ease and with little or no cleanup make this waffle maker an excellent addition to any home.

by: Joanna Daneman on date: June 18, 2006

->Prices Waring Pro WMK300 Belgian Waffle Maker, Brushed Stainless

We've tried a number of wafflers and most are not suitable for our tastes. We like thick waffles that are crisp and have deep holes.

The Waring Pro takes up a bit of space on the counter (something to consider) but it does the job admirably. The only other waffler that lets you flip the waffles to let the batter sink thoroughly into the waffle plate is a model that you simply turn over by hand. This is the professional kind that you rotate on a spindle to invert the plates and get complete cooking.

Does it make a difference? Yes, it does. The waffles come out light and crisp, cooked through but not heavy. We use a batter with gluten-free flour and they still come out nicely.

Many waffle recipes demand yeast, but this is really not necessary. You can use buttermilk batters, milk batters or even soymilk batters (which are a bit heavier, in my experience.) One trick to avoid dense waffles is to separate the eggs in the batter and beat the whites until they form soft peaks. Stir in the yolks as you would the whole egg, but at the end, fold in the beaten whites. The air afforded by the whipped egg white makes the batter crisp nicely in the waffler.

One more tip; many waffle batters seem to have a lot of fat. (One recipe I learned in Germany, where they make flat waffles rather than the Belgian style, has about 50 percent of the batter by weight as BUTTER. So much so, it is almost impossible to beat it into the water-based flour and milk. Unbelievable.) But the fat is a necessary evil; if you eliminate the butter or oil, the waffle will not crisp up and it might stick. We serve waffles for special desserts or Sunday breakfast and they are thus not an everyday indulgence. Belgians gild the lily by topping the waffles with whipped cream and adding fruit. You can simply put powdered sugar. Or try cream cheese and apple butter, something from Coney Island many many years ago.

Waffles cook in about 5 minutes depending on the setting, I personally use a setting between 3 and 4. The waffles come out crispy, but are not over done.

Works great with homemade and store bought waffle mix. I have tried the homemade waffle mix and it is very good it just takes to long to prepare. I do not care to wait a 1 1/2 hr before I can make waffles. Extrememly easy to clean up, especially if batter leeks. The drip pan is dishwasher safe.

Well, after waiting for these waffles for over 3 months now and not being able to find another decent frozen waffle, we decided to buy the waffle maker. We received this today and within a half an hour, I had the waffle maker out, the manual red, and perfect waffles in my daughters mouth. Needless to say,we are all very happy:-) Effortless...Impressive....Perfect...

I got it and tried it the same day.
It operated per the manual until it came time to beep at us telling us the waffle was done.
Something was wrong with the timer as it never did beep.
We returned it the same day.

Let's face it, beligian waffles are one of man's greatest creations. But with waffles being $6 a pop at your local breakfast joint, you need to have your own professional waffle maker. Enter the 5 star WaringPro wafflemaker.

Once you buy this thing, you'll understand why everyone and their mothers are giving this a 5 star rating.

Pros:
Super easy to use. Turn it on and it beeps when it's ready. Each waffle only takes about 90 seconds to cook.

Easy to clean. Just wipe it with a paper towel and you're done.

Perfectly consistent. Every waffle comes out golden brown every time.

The flipping mechanism, oh, the flipping mechanism. The flip creates an air pocket in the middle of the waffle thus creating the waffley goodness known as beligian.

Made a believer out of the non waffle loving members of my family. All of them agreed that this machine made the best waffles they've ever had. Ever. In life.

Cons:
The machine has a pretty big footprint, so you may need to find a place to stow it when it's not in use.

Review: Great waffles, poor durability

I bought the Waring Waffle Maker about 3 years ago. It has made consistently great waffles, but I have had serious issues with it, and this morning, it completely died. The construction of the unit is poor, and about a year ago, it shorted out. Being a little handy, I took it apart, and found the insulation from the wiring melted against the heating element, and where it had melted, it had finally shorted against another melted wire. I repaired this, and found the unit difficult to reassemble (plastic housing with no screw plates). The plastic degrades over time with heat, and the unit looses up seriously. The shorting problem has returned (now when I open it up). Since I have had so many issues with it, it is going in the garbage.

I expected a 'professional' quality unit to be durable. This unit works well, but will not hold up to the wear and tear. I am going to try the kitchenaid waffler... more expensive, but I would rather pay for quality, than have half a breakfast...

This product is a five star winner. Made my first batch of waffles for Mother's Day. It's super easy to use. My waffles were done in three minutes. Seasoned it once with cooking spray. Waffles were done before I could get the plates on the table. Huge, light and golden brown. I used a recipe from one of the reviewers, made enough for four big waffles. Measuring cup included is a big help. Cleanup was five seconds, no muss no fuss no bother. Yeah, it costs more than the average waffle maker. But I had a cheapie, and it was constantly miss and miss. If you want restaurant size and style waffles, you won't go wrong with the Waring Pro.

The WMK300 waffle maker is an exceptionally fine product.

Here is my experience. I bought some Krusteaz buttermilk pancake mix, and used the waffle directions on the bag. I also used sunflower oil for both the batter mix and lightly brushed some of the oil on the waffle grids after preheating (as per the directions).

This waffle maker preheats very quickly, and has a nice indicator lamp to let you know.

I used the measuring cup that came with the unit and poured my batter in, closed the lid, and turned the waffle element over as per the directions. Also the browning setting was set to 4, as per the directions. In a very short period of time, I heard 3 beeps, so I flipped the waffle unit back and opened the hatch. To my amazement, I had a perfect, golden brown waffle, that popped right off the grid, and no sticking whatsoever. This was very impressive, there is no learning curve to use this waffle maker, and I used an instant pancake mix to boot!

The second waffle, I decided to get wild. So I chopped up a bunch of fresh strawberries (1/4" pieces) added it to the batter. Now this batter was like half strawberries, so to be safe, I added an additional tablespoon of sunflower oil to the batter. I did not re oil the waffle grid, did not think it was necessary. I poured the fruit filled batter in the unit, closed and flipped, in a short time I heard the now familiar 3 beeps. Once again, and to my amazement, I had a perfect strawberry filled gourmet golden belgian waffle, and it came right off the waffle grids with out sticking!

This waffle maker is very well made, heavy duty and makes waffles fast. Unless your going to open up a restaurant that serves many waffles, I believe you will not need a better waffle maker than this.

I borrowed the waffle maker from my sister for Easter brunch. I made a recipe from the manual as well as a pecan waffle and both turned out terrific!! Not only does it make perfect waffles, it's fun to use. I haven't yet returned it to my sister, and have used it a few more times since Easter (Bisquick worked great too), maybe I'll forget to return it!!

My son gave me the Waffle Baker for Christmas. It makes absolutely the best waffles ever. My sister borrowed it to use for Easter Brunch, and the results were perfect as expected. In fact, she is now holding it hostage and refuses to return it!! It's that good. I think I'll have to make a midnight run to rescue my Waffle Baker.

After having wonderful waffles at the EMBASSY SUITES, I decided to buy a waffle maker for large waffles. This waffle maker is so AWESOME! I can't say enough great things about. It was a great investment. I would do it again in a hearbeat. The waffle mix they use at nice hotels and restaurants is called "Carbon's Golden Malted Pancake and Waffle Flour". This mix is the best I've found. You can order it on their website,(I've seen this brand of mix at Williams-Sonoma, but for more money). All you have to add to the mix is egg, water, and melted butter. It's a fabulous combination!
