I was sooooo excited to receive this product after finally having some money to buy it at a GREAT price, even though it's refurbished. I love the fact that it's taken a whole lot of pressure off my hands and the mixing is sooooo much faster. Also, I tried the Professional series with the bowl lift and have to say this tilt-head model beats it hands down cause I don't have to keep taking the attachments off to take the bowl out. Although, the motor can't compare. My 3 Star rating is because it doesn't mix the flour capacity that it states in it's literature. Aside from it splashing out as I'm adding it into the bowl, the batter rises to the top and the ingredients spill over. On top of that, the motor loses power and then starts smelling from over heating. No matter how high I turn the speed dial, it doesn't go any faster than the stir speed or slower. Also, when doing heavy mixing, the bowl lodges so tight that it's hard to get it out of the lock position. What'll probably happen is I'll have to cut my recipe in half. The whole purpose for this purchase was to increase my recipe so I can make more at one time.

Other than that, I really love the hands off mixing, the quickness of getting it done, and the look of this product. I'm willing to give it a chance. Hope it lasts as longs as some of the other people who've had theirs for 20+ years.

I bought this as a gift for my mom for Mother's Day as she has been hinting around at wanting one for a long time. I was so excited when it arrived just 2 days after I ordered it and couldn't wait until Mother's Day to give it to her. I made sure to check it out when it arrived and it was in perfect condition, no a scratch anywhere. Mom used it the day she got it and has made several dozen cookies since then, as well as cakes and mashed potatoes. I've even had to opportunity to use it and it's just amazing! A very good bargain! Would recommend to anyone!

The box was delivered extremely battered, but the mixer was intact and operated. The only thing I noticed was a chip in the paint on the stand behind the bowl. I decided it wasn't worth lifting that heavy thing to return it for another one and go through that over again. As advertised, the bowl protector/pour spout was not included as it would have been with a new product. This didn't really make sense to me, since you also offer them as a separate item to purchase.

->Cheap Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I have to admit the decision to purchase a KitchenAid mixer wasn't an easy one. The most expensive small appliance I own is probably my $30 Coffee Maker. As much as I dreamed of having a KitchenAid, I thought, "How good could it be?...Will I REALLY use it?" My sister was skeptical! She didn't tell me till AFTER I bought it that she was SURE it would just sit on my counter collecting dust and taking up space. Well I'm happy to admit, I've had mine now for a little over a week and have already used it several times. I absolutely love it!!! I've already done homemade pizza (Thank you Wolfgang Puck for your wonderful recipe!), cookies and my next project is Pepperoni Rolls. It's so thorough and so smooth I can't imagine ever going back. Not that I could...I made cookies so much my hand mixer gears were completely chewed up. I love having only one big attachment in the middle and the mixer really does a good job of moving around and stirring up the ingredients. Did a fantastic job of kneading the pizza dough!!! So there, sis. I've used it...A LOT! You can have some Pepperoni Rolls, anyway... (*blows raspberries*)

Now, the next question is, Factory-Reconditioned or new? Boy was I nervous. First of all I'm spending more on this than four coffee makers. Am I going to risk having a "used" mixer? Trust me, I can't even tell. There's a sticker there in my manual that tells me it's refurbished. The box tells me it's refurbished but believe me...my pizza and cookies could NOT tell the difference. I did noticed a small smudge on the paint that was only visible in the right light. I had to point it out to my husband, it was so minimal. Besides that, in a few months time I may have a few dings of my own from using it so much!!!

So, cons to buying refurbished? Don't really see any. I love it, I love it, I love it!!!! Can't beat the price. $154.99 and free shipping? Why pay so much for new???? I'd rather buy a second refurbished as a gift for another Doubting Thomas!!!

Why bother getting a second set of bowls and beaters, when you can get a whole second mixer!!!!!!!!!! Serious bakers need to have more than one mixer bowl, now I have it. I am a proud owner of the big brother Professional 600. The baby brother Artisan is a great helper!!! Amazon's price for the factory-reconditioned Artisan is great, and indeed I can't tell it isn't NEW.

I love the Artisan for all jobs not requiring the huge Professional 600. The Artisan bowl is tall and narrow, well designed, less splashes. It's tilting head is very handy whenever you need to reach in the bowl. It makes whipped cream and egg white meringues in a blitz. It kneads my sourdough starter very fast and more efficient than in the larger Professional 600 bowl.

You need to have both, if you can, but for sure, start with the Artisan. Or get 2 Artisans for the price of 1 Professional 600.

i was a little hesitant about buying the refurbished model, but i've ALWAYS wanted one, and the price put it in my [almost] affordable range. i am SO glad i sucked it up and ordered! i use it several times a week and it arrived in perfect condition. seriously, not even a nick that i noticed. it works beautifully on everything from thick ice-cream (get the ice cream attachment!) to kneading bread. the stainless bowl has a nice handle and is easy to clean! plus, it's inspired me to get more into cooking, so everyone else is happy too.

ps-in case you were wondering, i asked other people who have this mixer if they ever use the pouring shield the refurbished model doesn't come with, and they don't!

It was a little smashed in on one end and partly open. I was releived when I opened it to find an intact functioning Kitchenaid mixer. No signs of previous use at all, no nicks,scratches at all. Just a few oil marks, probably left from the refurbishing. Wiped it clean,looked like new. The only thing I'm not sure about is the speeds. I cannot detect a difference in the "10" speeds. It's more like 4 speeds. Maybe I should check with the manufacturer about this. However, it works really well and baking is easier than ever.

I've been looking at this product for a few years, but just could not justify the price and suffered on with my hand mixer. I received a gift certificate for Christmas for Amazon, and took the opportunity to pounce on this deal.

I've had the machine for about 10 days now and couldn't be happier. What a difference having a machine to do all the work for you... waffles, cookies, cakes, pizza dough, meatloaf, the list goes on and on. If I can figure out a way to use the KitchenAid, it gets used. Things that used to be a chore with a regular mixer are a breeze with this mixer. It works wonderfully, so wonderfully in fact that I can't get "him" to leave it alone! I'm pretty sure he's decided it is a power tool, not a kitchen appliance.

Don't hesitate about the "reconditioned" part of this deal. Mine arrived in perfect condition. It clearly had never been used. There's not a mark on anything - and the savings by not buying a "new" one is well worth it. Now I just have to figure out how to stop all this baking....

Factory Refurb Rocks! Instead of mearly shuffled off the assembly line (well, like the first time), these are actually tested and inspected before being sold again. Instead of the typical one-year warranty, you only get six months, but usually these kinds of things either break right away or last forever. Mine works.

My family told me that the KitchenAid mixers are basically the same except for the motor used. The bigger, more expensive motor will typically last longer than the smaller ones.

I am extremely happy with this mixer so far! I used it to make all of my Christmas cookies, I was creaming butter and sugar, shortening and sugar, the machine performed perfectly. It was even able to mix in most if not all of the flour that I needed.

I have not used the dough hook yet, but I am sure the machine will work the dough just perfectly. Additionally, I received the pasta maker attachment for Christmas and I have used it as a cheese grater. This would work well with a hard cheese, but it became quite a mess for me. I haven't tried to make my own ground meat yet.

All in all, this is a terrific mixer, I couldn't be happier, unfortunately my waistline is showing it!

Lastly, when I received the mixer there was no defects at all, no scratches, dents, or chipped paint.

Anyway, money was tight so I decided to look at re-furb'd mixers. We were both really impressed when it arrived. No damage, no scratches. In fact, the only thing I can even find wrong is that the decorative metal band doesn't fit tight. My wife uses the mixer at least 3 times per week and it works great. I would recommend purchasing the pour shield as well, especially if you are used to having a mixer with wider bowl.

The price on the KitchenAid site will tell you that this type (Artisan) of stand mixer will cost between $319 and $329. I got mine (white on white), with a promo coupon and the super saver shipping for $135. I ordered it on December the 26th and got it on January 4th.
Out of the box it looks brand new. It looks like it was just a return, like it wasn't used. No dings or scratches in the paint, even all of the cautionary stickers in place. There are a couple of minimal scracthes in the bowl, but as soon as you run it with the wisk, that is what will happen (possibly when it was tested at the KitchenAid factory). Running the machine, the engine it quieter than I thought it would be. Obviously it's not a slight hum, but not jet engine loud.
If you're into making cookies, cakes, pies, breads, pastas, sweets of any kind, etc...this is worth the money. And considering how much cheaper it is than a new one off the shelf, it's a steal.
As far as I'm concerned, this is brand new. 6 month warrenty, should something go wrong. Usually KitchenAids are quality.

I got it in the mail today and have made sugar cookies, frosting and a cake for my daughter's birthday tomorrow. I got this beautiful machine for $137.00 delivered, with the special offer. I now believe what everyone says, KA is just the best.

-> Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

This kitchen item I have wanted like for the longest time. Well, my honey got me one...a white one & yes the reconditioned one. I immediately opened the box and made 7 different kinds of cookie dough with it. What a fabulous machine! It mixed in nuts very well & whipped butter & eggs so creamy. Because this machine made my dough making sooo easy, I swear I couldn't stop using it. Some of the dough I made was creamy and some were very stiff. The motor handled each texture of dough extremely well & is much quieter than my hand mixer. But be sure to keep a spatula handy for scraping the sides of the bowl if you make a messy batter or dough. Don't be scared to buy the reconditioned model.....I really put mine to heavy use & it it still perfect. I love you Kitchen Aid!!!!

I really couldn't justify the retail version of this mixer, but I am very happy with my reconditioned version. I have had it for a year, and I still can't tell what, if any, problems this mixer ever had.

I may need to buy another one for another purpose, and this refurb is the only way to go for me.

I reaaly don't need to review the mixer itself. That has been covered in many other reviews.

Every year we go through a hand mixer. Even the $25 and up ones dont make it. We give homemade goodies for Christmas. My husband I cook alot and wanted one of these for a very long time.I saw these refurbished ones at a steal and bought it. I thought my husband would have a cow even at the bargain price. When I told him I juggled the bills to get it, he was so estatic. When the brown truck pulled up and he saw the size of the box....he looked like a little kid! He was heading for the door almost running! Mind you...,I had to remind him that he was still only wearing his robe and would probably scare the delivery guy half to death. I brought it in and like two vultures we decended upon the box. Ta da!!! A snow white mixer with stainless steel. Oh what a beauty she is!! WE repectfully waited for the other to make something to try it out. He paced around it all day smiling as he passed it. touched it.. read the manual; finally I told him get to the holiday cookies already....He did and He loves it!!! He made snickerdoodles and I plan on making bread this week end. It is the best shared gift we ever bought Don't be afraid to buy this beauty it works like a well fed horse! lol

Superlatives....I mean, what more indicator could anyone want than the reviews here? I can only concur. I bought the chrome version and just looking at it on my counter is almost fulfilling enough! The machine is simply stunning! Moreover, the performance cannot be faulted. Those beaters and that engine will last a lifetime. I purchased mine from the US to use in the UK and forgot to attach my step-down voltage converter (from the UK's 240V to the US 120V). The machine whirred to ludicrous speed then ka-pow! I saw sparks. But good old KitchenAid UK decided to bend the rules and fix it for free in no-time. Not even 240V illegitimate volts could stop my machine and now its as good as new! That's a test of quality and a testament to money's worth.

I'm a convert! I want the blender next!!

I have been wanting this mixer for a long time, but it was just too costly. I stumbled upon these refurbished ones, plus an additional $[...] off and the deal was just too good to pass up. I've only had mine for two weeks, but I am amazed at how well it looks and handles. I make a lot of cakes, frostings, cookies and very stiff royal icing. I plan to use it for a big batch of mashed potatoes over Christmas. It is heavy, but I keep it on the counter, because I use it constantly so moving and storage is not an issue for me. This is a great way to get a great mixer at a substantial savings.

I just can't express how happy I am with my reconditioned Kitchenaid Mixer. The machine arrived with absolutely no blemishes...the condition was top notch, just as if it was a brand new item. I couldn't wait to try it out to see how loud the motor would be and how well it worked...the thing is amazing! It is very quiet (or at least much quieter than I expected from a large mixer such as this one) and it handled a double batch of bread dough with ease. Since getting this mixer, I've used it way more than I ever thought I would...I'm cooking and baking all the time now! My husband and I made pretzels today and they were soooo good. Everything I cook with my mixer tastes better...I can't explain it, but it does! My banana bread is more moist and delicious than ever. This machine is so easy to clean also...you wash the bowl and the attachment, give the standing unit one quick wipe, and you're done. This is my first Kitchenaid mixer and expectations were high. It came in flawless shape, with a perfect finish. I made a flowerless cake and it was perfect. I added a Kitchenaid pasta maker attachement and tried my hand at homemade pasta. I figured I'd try the Kitchenaid recipe first, and see how the whole proces worked. It had a tough time with the dough (30 sec with the blade, 2 minutes with a dough hook). I attached the pasta maker and all was working well. I noticed it was slowing down and speeding up, even if I wasn't feeing any dough through it. Then it stopped turning even though the motor was still running. It was pretty warm. Not good. Only got to run 1/4 of the dough and didn't finish that.

The next day, I tried it again with no attachments. Same slow down/speed up problem. Called Kitchenaid, who said it was out of warranty, but they would replace it anyway. Not good that their records were wrong, but fantastic that they still took care of me. A replacement is on the way, and I'll return the current model when the new one arrives.

So I give five stars for customer service. You gotta figure somebody will get a bad one, and I wanted to let everyone know how Kitchenaid took care of it. I never mentioned it was a refurb, since I wanted to see how they would treat me. I'd buy another Kitchenaid product in a heartbeat.

Bought this mixer reconditioned because it saved me 30-40 bucks or so, and also a previous reviewer mentioned they like buying reconditioned especially on items like this because then they're sure the motor has been fully tested and checked (although i'm sure KitchenAid checks the new ones too!).

With regard to wear and tear, I really can't find much at all! The paint job on the mixer is pretty much flawless, and though the steel mixing bowl has a few wear-marks, they're nothing that a new mixer wouldn't get in a week or two of normal usage!

The packaging is very thick styrofoam that fits perfectly around the mixer, and mine arrived with no damage to the outer box.

Overall, i'm very satisfied with my buying experience and the product performance. I saved tons of money both buy buying this online (instead of super overpriced at like williams sonoma!) and also getting it reconditioned.

I was completely delighted with this mixer and the condition it came in. I purchased it as a bridal shower gift for my new daughter-in-law who really wanted a tangerine mixer. I had reservations purchasing a "factory-reconditioned mixer" but thought I would take a chance. I was flying up for the shower and had the mixer shipped directly to NJ, so would not get to see it until the shower. SCARY. While the description said there might be minor scratches, I was PLEASANTLY surprised to see it looked as though it was a brand new mixer and she absolutely loved it!! The only thing that told her it was reconditioned was inside the receipe book, it said in big letters "RECONDITONED". She didn't care, she was just thrilled to receive this beautiful mixer. She has used it and is very pleased and so am I. I would by reconditioned on Amazon again.

I had something happen to me with this mixer that was right out of "I Love Lucy". I have the mixer and a grain grinder. When I went to grind grain I noticed that the shaft didn't really sink all the way in but it went in far enough to try it. So I tightened the screw and began to grind my grain. That's when it happened! The grain grinder broke lose and began to spin like an airplane propeller. Grain was shooting everywhere...the bowl I was holding got sliced from my hand and shattered on the wall...and after I turned it off I found that the shaft had grinded not the grain but the attachments opening down so that there were chards of metal everywhere. I wondered if this had happened to anyone else and I thought I would at least put out the warning...if it doesn't fit in there snug...don't try it. Also, KitchenAid was gracious enough to send me a replacement right away free of charge. I think they are a great company.

Purchased this for my wife's birthday last year and she loves it...It's working great and looks beautiful on the countertop as well...I actually bought it new for $250 but, if it wasn't a gift, I would have definitely gone for the reconditioned model, because of the better value. Even with the reconditioned one, you're paying a little extra, but I think it's worth it. Regardless, don't buy the "matching" Kitchen Aid blender because it is HORRIBLE! The base is too wide and, therefore, the blade misses alot of the ingredients, which means looooong blending times and "chunks" left floating at the top. Hard to believe a company can design a fine mixer and a terrible blender at the same time, but this is an example of that.

From the start, the mixer did a fantastic job with everything from baking mixes to scratch cookies to bread dough. But I thought the motor sounded a bit rough. After checking with a friend who owns a brand new Artisan, I decided my motor definitely sounded rough during use.

I called the customer service center for Kitchen Aid expecting a hassle. Instead, the representative listened to my mixer over the phone and verified the faulty motor. I will receive a new refurbished mixer by UPS and the delivery person will return one week later to my home to pick up my faulty mixer -- I have a full week to package up the old mixer using the replacement mixer's box. No hassle. No time wasted on my part running to the post office or UPS office. No shipping and handling charges paid for out of my pocket. What a dream!

->Prices Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

A couple of weeks ago I finally caved and bought a reconditioned Kitchenaid Artisan after years of wanting one. Between the free shipping, the great Amazon.com price and the instant $25 off coupon from Amazon, I got it for $135 bucks delivered. Great, right?

The mixer came in a few days and it was in very good shape. The only issue I could see was a slight bit of chipping on the paint around the silver band. The bowl had a tiny dink in it, but not enough of a dent to interfere with the beaters. BUT, the paddle that came with the mixer was broken.

I immediately called Kitchenaid, because the mixer came with a 6 month warrantee. And yes, they were willing to send me a paddle for free. BUT, they were backordered and wouldn't be able to get one to me for several weeks, even with a rush put on it.

Given that the paddle is the most important attachment, I decided to call Amazon and return the whole unit for another one. That was a bummer, but I will say that Amazon handled it beautifully. Once I located a phone number, (By Googling it, incidentally) I spoke to a very nice woman who offered to send out a replacement with expedited delivery.

It came yesterday.

This time, the attachments and the bowl were in perfect condition. The mixer, however, had a couple of gouges on the paint where it appears a bowl jammed into during shipping at some point. Again, purely cosmetic.

Now, about the mixer:

It is absolutely amazing. I have been completely thrilled and even with a broken paddle managed to make a chocolate cake and soft oatmeal cookies. The dough hook is wonderful. I whipped up homemade pizza dough in about 4 minutes, including the kneading time. I have cleared a space on my counter and installed hooks to hang the attachments and couldn't be happier with my purchase.

The Bottom Line:

At the time I bought the reconditioned mixer, Amazon.com was having a sale on the new ones. In the end, a new one would have been $40 bucks more after all the discounts. For that $40 I would have saved myself the hassle of the return, gotten 6 extra months of replacement warranty AND would have received the pouring shield. I think, if I had it to do over again, I would probably pony up the extra few bucks. As of this writing, however, the sale is over and the new ones are about a $100 bucks more. For that difference in price, it is well worth the inconvenience and slight cosmetic blemish to get an excellent reconditioned product.

I am very happy with my purchase.

I purchased this mixer for my daughter-in-law. She lives in another town and had received the mixer for Christmas baking. I went to visit and I realized when I saw the mixer that it is not what I thought I had ordered. I thought I had ordered the same mixer that I have, which is the lift up model and not the tilt back. My mixer is much more powerful and has bigger attachments. In my opinion, this mixer is not the five quart, but the 41/2 quart model with a 5 quart bowl. The mixer I purchased for my daughter-in-law tilts back, while the true 5 quart mixer has a control that lifts the attachment up from the bowl.
So anyone out there that wants the bigger more powerful "true" 5 quart mixer, this is not it. I realize that I should have been paying more attention to what the mixer looked like instead of realing that it was called a "5" quart. So buyer beware on this item. It truly is not what they are calling it.

->Buy Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

Super fast shipping! Great packaging! Absolutely no blemishes! A perfect mixer!

I also purchased the pouring shield and I feel it isn't a necessity. I use it, but it's a bit of a pain to get it together and to keep it together once you start adding stuff. And the dry ingredients still "poof" up and the shield only catches about 75% of the poof; the other 25% ends up on the mixer! It also makes it impossible to scrape the bowl! You have to turn off the mixer, take off the shield, lift the top, scrape, put the top down, the shield back on...

I love the mixer, and I enjoyed reading all the other helpful reviews I read before I purchased it. I will add one small negative thing, tho. I am used to scraping the bowl! It has taken every ounce of willpower I have to obey the rules and not scrape while the mixer is operating. I don't want to lose a spatula, but I also want to scrape. It's a pain to lift the top and scrape with the mixer off. But I will say that the mixer mixes so well and so evenly that scraping is usually not necessary, even with a triple batch of cookies!

So, all in all, I think you will be happy with your purchase and will enjoy it for years to come!! I plan to!

->Deal Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I write this enjoying an oatmeal cherry cookie, fresh from the double batch just whipped up in the new Kitchenaid. It arrived today- 4 days after I ordered it- Talk about SUPER saver shipping! You all know what a Kitchenaid is- so I'm not gonna sing the praises of the mixer in general- but I'll tell ya about mine:

It arrived double boxed- and tightly packed. The inner box, the Kitchenaid box, was plain white with green "Factory Reconditioned" letters on the side. I was nervous about how close to new this really would be...

I opened it up and set it on the counter- Yes, there are two small blemishes on it- on the side of the unit- they look just like two #2 pencil points. Not bad- I expected far worse to be honest. And I plan on making this a workhorse anyway- the Kitchenaid, to me, isn't a showpiece (if it were, I'd buy NEW.) Two small dots aren't enough to make me want to pay twice what I did on this one.

I inspected the paddle (what I use most) blade- perfect- The dough hook was also perfect. Both came nested tightly in the inner styrofoam. The whisk attachment, which arrived attached to the unit, was, indeed, a little bent out of shape. A little pressure on two sides put it right back to normal. I remember the first Kitchenaid I bought (a base-power plain white one) had the same issue. Really, not a big deal at all.

The bowl was perfect as well- no scrapes- solid handle.

It took me a little while to unknot the plug- was wound up in the bowl.

I prepped everything and set to work- a double recipe of oatmeal cookies. This is the recipe that would bring the lesser Kitchaid to its knees- it would do it, but it would complain the whole time. The mixer did just fine with it. I'm happy to report- all operation is perfectly normal.

Fron the for-what-it's-worth department- I've owned 3 Kitchenaids now- they have ALL definitely made a different sound running at lower speeds than at the higher speeds.

I would purchase again without reservation.

Again, I make my appliances work for me, rather than just look pretty. Expect a blemish here or there- Expect the performance and quality of a KitchenAid- and expect it to arrive a lot sooner than you'd think.

Add me to the list of satisfied customers. I ordered my mixer on Thursday and received it the following Monday and I went straight to work. There was not a single cosmetic flaw with my mixer. You do not need the pouring shield, just remember to slow the mixer (or stop it for that matter) when you add something light like sifted flour. Otherwise it will fly, but with the shield it just ends up on the plastic. If you want your ingredients in the batter, slowing the speed it down works best. I made two separate batches and the paddle attachement never left anything unmixed at the bottom of the bowl. Trust me, buy it and enjoy!

WOW! It's hard to believe the price on this incredible mixer-even considering it's reconditioned. Before making my purchase, I contacted KitchenAid's Support Center (a toll-free phone number for anyone to use)and wanted the bottom line of a "Factory-Reconditioned" Product. In my own personal experience, I've dealt with companies that had differing ideas on what they meant by "Reconditioned", "Refurbished", "Like New" and some others.

I wanted this review to be as useful as possible so I did as much research as I could, hopefully it will help you to make a more informed and comfortable decision. The wonderful and personable customer service representatives as KitchenAid were very helpful in answering a list of questions that I had prepared. I already had the mixer but wanted to make certain that the information I was passing on to you was as up to date as possible. They reassured me that when they put the "Factory-Reconditioned" stamp of approval on the KitchenAid RRK150WH Artisan 5-Quart Mixer they're basically saying that you're getting a brand new-ish machine that has met or exceeded every standard necessary to place the original product on the shelves in the first place. I followed up with another question, "So how can that be since it IS different for whatever reason?" They gracefully explained that every KitchenAid Appliance must meet several strict standards (appearance, safety, etc.), standards that are manually checked and rechecked by actual quality control people in the factory, before they will place it for sale as reconditioned. I asked what the number one reason was for these great machines, and they really ARE great and powerful mixers, to be returned to the store or factory. The main reason is that most returns are a result of people receiving the 5-Quart Mixer as a gift (Wedding Shower, Wedding, Anniversary, New Home, etc.)and deciding that they already have one or that they don't have the need for a new mixer. As a result, the product is returned, often never opened, to the retail store and then shipped back to the factory.

KitchenAid gets FIVE STARS, in my books, for never assuming anything. Even if the tape is still securing the box, the unit is removed completely and sent through the entire quality control process-each and every part of the Mixer is scrutinized. If, as another example, a customer returns a unit because one of the covers is missing, the same lengthy process is taken to ensure that NOTHING leaves the factory with the "Factory-Reconditioned" status unless they can stand by the product in the same way they do with the original.

With a unit priced this low, it's hard to imagine that anyone is making a great deal of money on the deal. This is one case where I would tend to believe that we, the curious consumers, are definitely getting the best part of the bargain.

I'm Italian and love to cook and love to bake. My family used to do almost everything by hand, but then I purchased the KitchenAid 5-Quart Mixer and my life changed. I will NEVER make another loaf of bread or knead pizza dough, not even for $10,000.00, after learning that this dependable machine does a much better job than myself and even my Grandma can do! The other part of baking that I am not excited to partake in is the cleaning process. Thankfully, the colorful and trendy-looking mixer is as easy to clean as is cleaning a bowl of popcorn! It's honestly that easy and a point that I wanted to pass onto you.

I sure hope that this review helps in some way. I've not covered all of the nitty gritty details, most all of them are found here on the site or can be located on KitchenAids extensive and resourceful site. What I wanted to do is personalize this purchase for you and focus on what they mean, as an individual company, in regard to a product that is not brand new-but is "Factory-Reconditioned!"

I've spent this same amount of money and much more on items I never ended up using. And even if you're the type of baker who only does baking on Holidays, you'll absolutely love your KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer. Choose your favorite color and mix and blend until your heart and tummy are content.

And feel free to email me if I can ever be of any more assistance to you. Thanks for taking the time to read my review.

Well, here I am reviewing a mixer. I'm not quite sure how I feel about this mixer being the high point of my entire week when it arrived, but I suppose now that I've hit 30 there are some things I need to come to terms with. I'm the kind of woman that loves to cook but hates to clean up. This thing is a breeze to clean - although I must say I wish the whisk could be put in the dishwasher. I've had minor issues with things splashing out so I do believe I will get the mixing/pouring shield. I love the wide variety of attachments available - I'm considering getting the slicer attachment to make hash browns/french fries/au gratin potatoes. I'd wondered about the amount of real estate this mixer would take up on my countertop, but it's not too bad. As for being factory-reconditioned, I did not notice any flaws with my machine. No scratches, dings, nothing. Ah, in the for what it's worth department if you're giving one of these mixers as a gift it will arrive in a box that plainly states it is "factory-reconditioned". We recently teamed up with friends to buy some mutual friends a mixer as a wedding gift, but they didn't mind at all - were delighted to get the mixer.

In short, you should buy it - you won't regret it!

My factory refurbished KitchenAid mixer arrived yesterday! I was very nervous about what I would fine upon opening the box- but much to my glee the mixer is perfect. I couldn't find anything wrong with it. It looks brand new and while I haven't used it yet, I did test it through all of the cycles and it seems to be working perfectly. I read a lot of other reviews that said that it's loud- I found that while it's not quiet, it's far from what I would call loud. It's a pretty heavy duty mixer, so I can't imagine that anyone would expect it to be quiet. I'll be using it to make a few dozen cookies this weekend, so we'll see how it performs. Overall, it's a fantastic value. I got my mixer for $130 between free shipping and Amazon's fall promotion. It comes with a 6 month warrantee. Overall, I'm very happy so far!

After thoroughly reviewing the reviews on Amazon's site for reconditioned kitchen-aids, I bit the bullet and purchased one for a wedding present. The first one I received had a loose band around the top...the second groaned in first and second "gear". The third one seems to be functioning well. So, Amazon's return policy is smooth and relatively swift, but if you don't have time for fussing around, you may want to spend the extra $$ for a machine that is new.

I had never used one though and was concerned with it being remanufactured; however my concerns were put to rest when I opened the box. The mixer that I purchased was a deep brown, called chocolate, and it was beautiful, not even a smudge! I cant even express what a convenience it is. We use it everyday: eggs, pancakes, icing, cookies, pizza dough, the list goes on. I only wish that I could afford to buy one for all of my sisters! ->Best Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

The mixer I had before was ok. It did the job, until the electronic controls broke and the speed was kind of random.

This mixer on the other hand is vastly superior than my previous Oster stand mixer, or my moms old Sunbeam (but she can't complain, she used it for 50 years).

The biggest pros are the sturdiness and power of this mixer. It is also quiet and can do any job without lamentations.

The standard stailess bowl is a plus too. I no longer have to worry about breaking it like I had with the old glass bowls. The 5.5 qt. bowl is a good size for me. I don't think I have any recipe that would exceed its capacity. Its smaller cousing may be too limited for weekend baker.

The attachments are also easy to clean, and will probably never rust. My old attachments rusted a bit near the rivets because, I often will just let the dishes to dry in the dish rack. This is no longer a worry.

If you think that you need the special chute to avoid messes, think again. This accessory is not at all needed. The refurb. model that I purchased did not have it. I had reservations about this when I placed my order, but after using the mixer, I soon realized that not only did I not need it, but it is probably a nuisance.

This device greatest quality, sturdiness, is also the cause of its greatest defect; it is heavy. A frail person would not be able to handle it. This is not the kind of device that you can easily store in the cubboards. It is much better if you can devote counter space for it.

I still have an unresolved question? Basically kitchen aid has two basic designs: one where the top part of the mixer pivots (my mixer) and one where the bowl goes up and down. I still wonder if one design is superior? I think that should be your only question when buying a kitchen aid mixer.

I hope you enjoy this product as much as I did.

I've bought a lot of kitchen appliances before and I've never been more proud one before than I am of this. This thing is a tank as it's very sturdyly built and powerful. I considered buying a mixer from Walmart for $100 (sunbeam) but now after having the Artisan I went back to Walmart to look at the one that I almost bought and it's much smaller, not as powerful and built nowhere near as strong. I'm very happy I bought the Kitchenaid. I don't know if the extra price for the Artisan is worth it over getting their other white mixer but I like my red one anyway. I know it's just a color but it looks nice in the kitchen. I'm looking to buy the pasta maker, food grinder, and a few other attachments now. This thing looks like it will last forever.

->Best Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I purchased this refurbished mixer from amazon about 1 month ago (in August 2005). Initially, the package was a little beat up as if someone had been throwing this thing around. But all in all, the system was in one piece and everything worked. I proceeded to run the mixer through a series of tests. Running it fast, ran it slow for at least 15 minutes. The mixer passed with flying colors.

Something to note about Kitchenaid mixers is that they are bit noisy and the gear mesh doesn't sound right (especially when running on the low speeds). This is normal. I know this because I grew up in a family with a brand new Kitchenaid mixer. That mixer always had the same sound! Many people complain about this minor "grinding" sound problem. I agree that it is a little disconcerting. But this is normal for these mixers.

I have resisted writing this review because I wanted to abuse my mixer a bit more before giving it a good review. I bake bread at least 2-3 times a week. And as many of you will know that can be very [...] a mixer. This mixer has been standing up to the challenge no problem so far.

One final thing to keep in mind. As with any machinery in this world, you must be careful about how you run it. If you burn the motor out of a mixer because you ran it for 30 minutes on a highly viscid dough, then there is no mixer in the world for you. Well, I take that back you need to purchase a factory grade mixer. But this mixer has my thumbs up and I would recommend it to anyone. Especially if you are on a budget and do not want to shell out an extra [...] for a brand new one.

Last weekend I made the best cookies with it. The batter was so light and fluffy. I used the recipe that came with the mixer. Now normally I wouldn't; I stick to my recipes because 'brand name' recipes never work out as good as their pictures. But I decided that I would take a shot with this one and it worked great. The mixer is very easy to use and looks great on my counter. I have had many compliments and I enjoy using it. One beater is much better than two. No more shaking bowl no more running along the edge with a spatula while I push the bowl to keep it turning. Now I can do other things, like prepare more ingredients while I use my mix master. It is more self reliant. I love it!

I chose pink, it looks great in my black, stainless steel, and pink kitchen. I only had one concern through the whole process, and that is the carton it was delivered in. It was flimsy cardboard, somewhat crushed, with very little tape holding it together. The mixer itself was held in the box by two small pieces of foam. As I said, it arrived in perfect condition, but I hope that wasn't just luck. I think this item could be packed better for shipping.

The bread I make is the only bread I can eat so I went out and bought a new Pro 5 Kitchen Aid with a 450 watt motor. Hopefully this will be able to handle the bread (only 2 loaves at a time). The mixer is supposed to knead bread and my recipe isn't any larger than the one in the Kitchen Aid book and I didn't knead on any higher speed than 2 but this mixer (size of motor or reconditioned motor to fault?) couldn't take it. If the buyer wants to knead bread twice a week, I wouldn't advise this mixer.

When I found this one on Amazon I was very happy. I ordered before Dec 17th so I received an additional $25 off my purchase. These are $299 new, and I got mine for $125 after the Amazon rebate. That's a total savings of $175! However, you only get a 6-month warranty instead of 1 year, and no pouring shield (a $25 value). Still it's an incredible deal.

When I received my mixer I checked it out thoroughly. It has the slightest scuff that you can only see when the light hits it just right. 99.9% of the time it looks absolutely perfect from any angle, I couldn't be happier. I'm sure mom will be happy too. Hopefully she won't be shopping around and see this review before Christmas!

My wife and I are D.I.N.K.s who just found out that we are expecting our first child. The Kitchenaid Stand Mixer just seems to be the quintessential kitchen device from my point of view that every home should have. The onyx black matches the decor of our new kitchen and was received in perfect condition.

The motor purs and the bowl rests tightly in the grooved base. It arrived in 4 business days on free super saver shipping. The only point of note is that the paddle and the dough hook attachments that we received were not the white plastic coated variety. They are the metal versions that are not dishwasher safe. That is certainly not something that bothers us after saving 50% from retail for the reconditioned model.

I have always wanted a Kitchenaid but like most others thought the regular retail price of $299 was a little steep. I have worked with a Kitchenaid before so it was not surprising to me about the performance. The price and the product was simply wonderful and it arrived very promptly(actually sooner than promised). I was like some of the others who gave reviews that were skeptical about buying refurbished but it was a wonderful buying experience with free super saver shipping and $20 dollars off it could not be beat. I am an aspiring chef so it worked simply fabulous for me. Thanks Amazon you are the best!!!!!!!!!!

->Best Price Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I've been wanting a Kitchenaid for years. I love to bake and this was the one piece of equipment that was missing from my kitchen. I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the price listed here! Yes I would be taking a chance on a buying a refurbished mixer but after $20 dollars off, $130.00 was looking a lot better than $250.00. I ordered the mixer on a Saturday and I recieved it on a Wednesday. It looks like a brand new mixer, it does not have one scratch on it. I've already used it twice, and I couldn't be happier.

The first one Amazon sent me worked, but really made a racket. I've heard these mixers run before and it just didn't sound right. Amazon sent me another one and this one is fine. In fact, it looks like new.

While I think the mixer is great, I do feel they probably didn't test the first one well enough at the factory. Especially considering I've read similar complaints from other reviewers about quality control on refurbished units. Amazon's exchange process was hassle-free but still I had to wait another week to get the replacement which was disappointing.

The savings over a new one ARE quite substantial so I would definitely go with the refurbished one again. Just make sure you check it out thoroughly when it arrives.

I got mine this past week on Monday via ups took no time at all to get it. Very nice mixer. Not a darn thing wrong with it that I could see. Great price ,reasonable. one wouldn't even know this was a refurbished mixer cause its performance doesn't show it or the cosemetics. only a small amount of paint off the flat beater no biggy cause the machine works excellent. and looks beatiful. Beautiful black color. And talk about feeling like a professional baker that really does it. I made a beautiful sugar free pudding pie with homemade whipped topping looks like a pro did it but it was with help from my good ol trusty ka mixer I just got. .

I recieved my order promptly and when I took it out of the box this is what I found. The bowl looked like it had been used for years. When I turned it on it made a nasty grinding sound and the rotary mixing motion didn't make it once around. This thing wasn't even close to working at all, much less reconditioned. When I went to lean the head back the black switch that locks it down fell off. It was cracked in half. Though I have read some positive reviews, I don't believe that Kitchenaid looks these mixers over well enough before re-selling. The one bright star in the whole mess was the relative ease and helpfullness of Amazon's Return process. Nothing out of my pocket and I should get the refund soon. Don't get your hopes up to high with this one folks.

->Cheap Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I purchased my first kitchen aid mixer in 1976 and gave it to my daughter when I left for Europe 5 years ago...Upon my return last year, she told me I wasn't getting my K5A mixer back (not that I expected to anyway.) I toyed with idea of purchasing a new Kitchenaid mixer but when I saw the reconditioned ones on Amazon, I decided that was for a great idea for me. I chose the Artisan because it had the same size 5 qt bowl and motor as my old model K5A. In the Artisan the head lifts out of the bowl and the bowl doesn't lift up....this wasn't a strong issue for me. I used a September coupon and paid no shipping. There isn't a mark, chip or dent on my Artisan. I gave it its first work out and whipped 2 egg whites to stiff peaks. It passed this test with flying colors. Glad I decided on this reconditioned model.

I recently purchased the Kitchen Aid rrk 1500b, The first time I used it the gears broke down after 3 minutes of grinding chicken. That tells me that they never did take this machine appart and recondition it, they turned it on and repackaged once they saw it worked.
That is simply unacceptable procedure, and Kitchen Aid should be ashamed of themselves. I have waited 10 years to be able to buy this machine, and now I am really angry,and doubtful that I will recomend it to any one of my friend.

I just received the mixer today. I bought it for my son and his wife as a gift. The unit is like new, finish is perfect, not a scratch on it.One review I read said that there was no UL label on their's. I found out where they put it, tilt the unit so you can look under it the UL reconditioned label is there. Great unit for the price. Would recommend these units to every cook.

Ordered on a Saturday, arrived on Thursday,free shipping(it is very heavy)and $25.00 off promotional coupon. Can't beat that price!Ordered the Oynx Black and it is a beauty, one tiny little scratch on base. Was a little hestitant about a refurbished machine, but, after reading all the reviews, I felt good about ordering-it still comes with 6 months guarantee and Kitchenaides reputation. Have always wanted one, but, the price was prohibitive-Thank you Amazon!! ordered some Farberware Stainless cookware,also and it is terrific!!

->Buy Factory-Reconditioned KitchenAid Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixers

I've always had a Tim Taylor attraction to quality kitchen appliances, and have always dreamed of owning a good Kitchenaid stand mixer. About 10 years ago while in grad school, I needed a stand mixer for some of my baking and kitchen experiments. The Kitchenaids were priced well out of my reach, but I was able to get a Sunbeam Mixmaster, which still had a good reputation as long as it was operated within its limits. That Mixmaster has served me well until I started experimenting with pizza making lately. The poor Mixmaster got pretty hot while kneading dough. Finally, the other week, a puff of smoke came out, and it was no more. I had already bookmarked this factory-refurbished Artisan on my Amazon wish list. I gave my wife a chance to veto the purchase, but she realized that losing my stand mixer was like losing a few arms and legs to me, and told me to get blue. (And she accused me of purposefully killing the Mixmaster so I had an excuse to the get the Kitchenaid!). I placed my order.

The Kitchenaid mixer has always had a good reputation, and is mentioned in several cooking books and web sites. In GEAR FOR THE KITCHEN by Alton Brown, host of the Food Network's GOOD EATS, Alton highly recommends the Kitchenaid, as well as Dominick DeAngelis in THE ART OF PIZZA MAKING. Alton highly recommends a tilt-head design, as this allows easier bowl scraping, and specifically mentions the Artisan by name. The Artisan is Kitchenaid's most powerful tilt-stand mixer. (The more powerful models are bowl-lift.)

With the Kitchenaid mixers, I really like the one big beater. It's infinitely easier to clean (and lick off) that trying to clean inside the tines of the two smaller Mixmaster beaters. The Kitchenaids have an accessory drive, which may be of dubious use for me, and of course, have the power to do the job (the Artisan features 325W) and the reputation for holding up. The bowl locks to the base, and the head locks down. The machine is heavy and doesn't walk across the counter while kneading dough like my old mixer did.

On the downside, if you are like me and believe, in the manner of the priests of Old Testament Israel whom were allowed to stab a fork into the boiling sacrifice and keep for themselves whatever meat came up, that whatever is left on the beater is yours, you may be disappointed at how it just sheds dough. I am also used to the fact the bowl of my old Mixmaster rotates, which made it easier to scrape. As for the Kitchenaid accessories, they are expensive. It may save a little counter space to add a can opening attachment, but a good, easier-to-use stand-alone model costs a third as much. In GEAR FOR YOUR KITCHEN, Alton Brown recommends the Krups ice cream machine which costs less than just the attachment for
